Polishing the wheels will mean one of two things is guaranteed...
1) You will hate them after two weeks because you'll have to clean them every 3/4 days. If you don't...
2) Brake dust and road salt will eat into them and they'll be fcuked within 6 months.
If I was you, i'd get them all...

Sell on autotrader.
I've only ever collected/delivered them at work so i've not actually done 100 mile stints in them. But my Dad has had mercs since 2008, and my main customer at work sells a lot of them and he and his wife also have a pair of them. (The same as the one I linked) SO i've driven a fair few.
£9k-£12k is out of my working zone dude. No idea what's reliable/good/bad at that age i'm afraid mate.
BMW 3 series boots are tiny though so if you're buying an estate because you want to carry lots, there's a lot better out there!
Personally if I was you i'd go Merc. They drive so much...
Really? I've had a fair few Mercs and never had it heard of a gearbox issue, but this one I'm driving at the moment has a definite whine coming from the box!! Lol
Very nice! What engine?
I'm smoking around in a 320 Elegance at the minute. Same colour I think but mine has beige interior... :S
(I'm borrowing it off a customer)
Passenger side front wheel off, arch liner out, remove horn, bash it about a bit, wire brush all connections, refit.
And try it before you put all the liner etc back in! Lol
I'm 99.9% sure that racing blue has a clear coat so 'correcting' the faded paint will be nigh on impossible.
£200 for a high end bonnet respray though so not the end of the world.
What did you go out in?
I've had a genuine 280bhp classic and a 320+bhp blob eye. Both were superb cars.
I did have a standard bug eye UK300 and sold it within an hour of collecting it. It was duller than Bolton.
No I mean keep the DCI log book, but basically 'ring' (for want of a better word) the car.
So change all the VIN plates over. Put the chassis numbers from the DCI on to the 172 shell. Apart from the lack of sunroof, nobody would know.
I think it's illegal though so you might want to check...
Re-shell it and swap the chassis plates over.
As long as your honest when you sell it, nobody else needs to know. If you do a good enough job (I don't expect anything less of you tbh!) then nobody would ever question it.
Saves aggro with insurers, aggro with DVLA, aggro at MOT time etc...
It won't! I bought some last month and they've watered it down now.
Bloke in the shop said the old formula (the GOOD formula) couldn't pass health and safety.
