Do these things have a MAF !? Sounds similar to when my old MAF went on an old car. Idle was OK, under load it was not happy until it was warm. Turned out to be the oil in the new air filter ruining the sensoe. Could, however, be coilpack, sparks, HTs, fuel pump or a number of other things..

Tbh count it as a blessing. It's only something to go wrong and wake you up at 3am every day for a month. Could be a fuse or it could be removed completely. It's not going to stop someone breaking in to it if they want something.
