Bought my phase 1 at 54, sold it at 64, didnt feel too old for it at all, although i do feel too old for the 2 seater i replaced it with, just cannot get out of it with any dignity.
I did use big red for the ones i actually overhauled and non clio ones ive done, but these were cheaper and thought i would give them a go. Moral there i think
I bought a pair of front caliper overhaul kits, on opening the box (one side) i have a new piston, a new seal to go in the caliper ( somewhat bigger than the piston) and a funny looking outer seal. Also got the parts shown in second photo which seem to be for a twin piston caliper, What a load...
When i fitted new front discs i meant to fit some overhauled calipers ( taken back to shiny metal, new pistons and seals fitted) so i thopught its abot time i fitted them.
Its not ruined, its my car so its as i like it, its not for anyone else, its still on the road and has a full interior. Nothing has been changed thats not reversible.. Any way its still going nicely, even my home made exhaust hasnt even needed adjusting. So its time for this..
Yeah I run 16 inch rims with 195/45 tyres as I think 195/50 look a bit balloon like, could run 195/45 x 15 but this would lower the gearing which on a road car I don't want to do. However while temporarily fitting some 15 inch rims with 195/50 tyres (same make/type tyre) I did think it drove...
Good cars in their day,Had one 25 odd years ago, mot always a problem emission wise, it got stolen and although recovered I then lost interest in it. Recently thought I would get another but I couldn't live with the build quality and very quickly sold it on.
I sold the original wheels as I wanted to run 16 inchers, also wanted an et of around 38 to help fill the arch,s. The replacements I bought I now want to use on the golf so needed some more wheels. Got these, nothing special, certainly not the BBS the home made (not by me) centre caps proclaim...
Werent sure how old the ht leads were, maybe original 17 year old items, so thought I would change them. Bought some pretty red ones which was a bit pointless as mostly hidden under the inlet manifold. While there be silly not to do the spark plugs even though I had fitted new ones not that...
Test drove it today, noisier than the k-tec super quiet system I had, that was expected. Too noisy for me to be honest but as I don't commute in it or even use it everyday I can live with it, till it sells or gets broken, not for a while yet .
Its done, not pretty but that wasn't a priority. So 2 box system, both straight through absorbtion type boxes, one large and one small. Dosnt sound too loud while blipping the throttle but yet to test drive it.
I cannot afford to run 2 cars, and have decided I would prefer to get my project/ modified mk1 golf on the road. So any turbo/throttle body/ long term ownership plans I had for the clio have gone. Also wanted to release some funds from it, so sold the superquiet k-tec exhaust, initial plans...
That's not so much rust, actually quite little. Anyway pulled the hand brake on, quite hard I will admit as I was in a hurry and "twang" broke a cable. possibly the 17 year old originals so replaced both. Photo shows not a lot.
I much prefer the phase 2 clusters to be honest. I have seen a couple of owners post photos of the inside of the rear section of sill, so I thought I would take a look at mine. Poor photo but rust has a hold, will get some waxoyl on that which should slow it down a bit.
Thanks that's a very good guide, but me being totally stupid meant the seat backs, however ive managed to manipulate it enough to do what I wanted, which was to remove side panel and have a look into the sill section, looking for rust.
Personally I would replace the same seals side for side, don't want any side to side variation. Also when I used air to push the pistons out of standard iron calipers, needed about 100 psi,
So, and this is my last word, connected the spoiler light to a power supply and it shone white, only kidding it was red, so yes a brakelight, apologies phase1sr, you were correct.
As said mine came with phase 2 lights already fitted, which have the reversing lights , the spoiler wasn't working as far as I was aware and being clear I assumed it was a reverse light, when I removed it. I never said I was right, said I could be wrong, can only go by my experience.
So where are the reversing lights, I don't see a clear section, mine came with phase 2 lights already fitted and I have no memory of seeing phase 1 lights actually lit up, Here is my original spoiler with what I believe is a clear reversing light.
