    Is traction control actually needed?

Ditto. Took a 182 around Brands on a Renault UK day, and it just kept grabbing randomly at different wheels f***ing up my exit/balance. Pain in the arse. Instructor wouldn't let me swith off either, grrrrrr.

    gooswood spring sprint

I'm planning to go this year. Was hoping to enter it this year but my wife's impending redundancy put a stop to that. Not missing entering next year though

Ooh, studs, gonna have to get me some of them. Changing wheels without them is a pain in the arse. Great progress as usual Jay. Next trackday, I want a ride

    West Sussex?

I'm just up the road in Middleton-on-Sea. Often top up at the Shell garage near Rustington before heading out to the roads around Storrington and Pulborough for a blast.

I got a 3 point 2 inch cheapo one. No problem at junctions, works fine on track.

    100% standard cars

I'd love to have a standard 172 Cup for day to day. I do kind of miss the refinement.

What mileage is your car on and has it developed any problems?

Not always the case. My Cup's been beasted for pretty much all of its 107k, and the only major failures have been my own fault when going off track. How a car is driven is far more important than how hard a car is driven, both for major components and consumables.

K-Tec Stealth - do you need to tell insurance???

I declared mine and said it was either £400 for a replacement Renault one that would crumble into dust after 18 months, or £300 for a stainless one that would last forever. I also said it was the only one I could find with a hidden tail pipe. No charge.

If I remove rear seats, parcel shelf etc....

Mine is bare metal inside apart from the two front seats and on standard springs/dampers at the back it's sits like this

2009 Clio Cup @ Brands Hatch

No offence, but the low light ones seem really drab...and even the few in sunshine lack your usual crisp intimate detailed clarity. Other than that spot on as usual.

What mileage is your car on and has it developed any problems?

At 107,500 miles only few components have failed on my Cup. Starter motor, 1 wheel bearing, steering rack, gearbox. That's what's 'failed' on mine. Steering rack and gearbox were my fault though so don't really count :o

    I've got terminal gearbox failure.

Here's how it happened... RKXMk2FFOS0 BIG cone x 2 straight under the middle of me at speed. I thought all that had happened is knocking out the alignment of the gear linkage, but as Mike said above, even when the 'box actuating arm is manually put into the neutral position 2nd gear is still...

    I've got terminal gearbox failure.

My run in with the cone at Goodwood was a little more severe than I thought. Spent this morning at Rentech with a new gear linkage and a lot of determination. Ended up with a working 2nd or a locked 5th, that was it. So a new 'box is required :( I'm just after sympathy really. It'd...

    Carbone Lorraine, is this normal?

LOL, I've still got pad residue on the leading edge of my rear spoiler. Ran out of Power Spray so it'll just have to stay.

    bought a focus 1.6 chic

Really? Next rolling road day my 1.6 is going on the rollers then. Does feel quite pokey above 4.5k tbh, not sure if it's down to 110bhp+ or just me wringing its neck though.

Just about run in and now starting to loosen up nicely then. Looks very nice for that mileage. Mine doesn't even shine.

    Newbie after a 172 Cup...

Good choice! Ideal for what you're looking for. 100k commuting + leisure in its first four years for mine, and the drive to and from work was the highlight of every day. Only 7k since in the last two, but the weekends are something to really look forward to now :approve:

It certainly is. Holes are also good for drainage when you break out the hosepipe after a scary moment on track ;)
