Just an FYI, Nothing failed on the Megane, Was simply a little too fast/wide on corner entry which then meant the car went on the slippy gravel, went sideways onto the grass and hit the embankment square on which snapped the front suspension, shifted the axle across 8 inches and flung the car up...
A few updates from last weekend in a nutshell..
Oulton Park was a great success with the car in a different league to 99% of the other cars there and handling very sweet!
Checked the car over, replaced brake fluid, coolant and oils to be changed over the Christmas holidays.
Also fitted some...
The finished settings are 5minutes toe out front and parallel rear so yeah I had to fit the shims.
In the wet I would probably remove the rear shims but that takes up about an hour as you say.
Really love the handling of the clio, it's what changed me from being a 106 fan, just wish I knew...
Exactly, cracking wet set up, also helps warm the rear tyres up in the cold/damp.
The new set up has completely transformed the handling as confirmed last Saturday at oulton park again, was very cold, icey/slippy in the morning so straight away on the sighting laps I felt a big difference to...
Awesome! I remember the saxo and clio, in the end garage wasn't you?
That was my first proper full trackday and loved it! Car was superb untill I lost my powersteering :(
Fitted the new radiator to the trophy this morning, very very easy job, fits perfectly and Andy seems one very happy customer, looks the dogs too if I do say so myself. I am indeed selling an identical radiator to the one that is shown here. Can't wait for Andy to fit the new headertank once...
Had a little bit of a fiddle with the car this weekend, fitted the camber shims to the rear so that is now parallel nice and easy job that was which is nice, done a nut and bolt check for the track day and need a new rear caliper/rebuild kit.
Also had a spare 5 minutes so chopped the tip off...
Il try it as it is then, the rear is currently 25' toe in on both which is nice to know it's straight, with 1.5degree of camber.
In the wet the rear feels awesome! It's just in the dry it lacked turn in as obviously the rear wasn't a tail happy with the added grip from being dry. Il give it a...
Unsure on mm but the front is now set to toe out at 5 minutes as a starting point, has got to be a hell of a difference as it was 20-25 minutes toe in previously.
Not sure whether to fit the rear shims to square the back up before the track day or see how it behaves with just the front sorted.
Pretty sure the fact that the front had a fair amount of toe in aswell as the back is the main reason for the turn in issue, it's not really that low atall really, even considering raising the rear up a little if it still refuses to turn In better.
Spring rates I'm still unsure on as I can't...
Checking the tracking on the individual wheels the old school fool proof way due to me forgetting to calibrate the other gauges hence giving me stupid results... The rear is infact nicely even with half a degree toe in which I've bought shims now to straighten out.
Thanks for the compliment dave :)
I'm just trying a few things out really as I noticed last time at oulton It was difficult to get it turned in properly, and with half a degree of toe in on the back that would be contributing to that, epic setup in the wet though! Nothing passed me for 3 hours...
A little bit of an update, bought a new set of pro race 1.2's to fit a set of wet weather tyres on, I've gone for uniroyal rainsport 3's
Booked another day at oulton park next month aswell.
Also checked out the geometry last night and the tracking was way off what I wanted so hopefully be a...
Cage is finally in! Aswell as proper seat rails. Only took 3 full days to fit *sigh*
Very happy it's all in and ready for oulton park on Tuesday!
Also got a go pro mount made up too which is sweet!
Cage shall be here Wednesday by all accounts, so work has began on drilling out the spot welds on the original seat rails aswell as any other unwanted brackets. Weld in seat rails shall be here early next week also. Hopefully be all ready for the track day at oulten park on the 19th!
Also the...
Time for a little update, the cage has been ordered which will be the full safety devices r016 from Mark fish motorsport. Should be here in around 4weeks.
Trackday booked at oulten park on August 19th which is the same week as the cage is due so with abit of luck I will have that fitted ready...
Well fcs has been and gone, I had a blast on track! Was very impressed with the way the car felt and handled in the wet and dry with r888's on! Very predictable and controllable, only got overtaken by the 200 cup car and some other race 172 cup which had wets on so was very pleased!
Only things...
