    new engine advice

To give you an idea with rounded up prices, you're looking at 500 for new pistons, the same for rods, then you may want to consider getting the engine bored/honed if you don't know the history of the engine, plus bearings, gaskets, seals, oil pump, water pump, the price of a new cambelt kit (few...

    Experience with police?

I've had a few run-ins with the police, ALL on the road might I add, I'm no crook ;-) Some of them have been out there to prove a point, power crazy, etc, but some of them have been absolute gents. Most recently, joined the bypass a little quickly, police pulled me over (didn't see him already...

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Chip-mk1 I wrote my university end-of-year project in C with a front-end in Java, so I'm familiar with both, but what I do in my job is definitely not realtime programming or anything low-level. Check out: http://python-can.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ I'd rather write it all in Python...

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Thanks mate, I'm more of a Python guy really, but Java seemed like the most appropriate to code a prototype. And Java will work just fine for this use case, just need to find a way to pump the raw CANBUS data into a socket and pull it apart for implementation. The CANBUS library that I've...

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Oh, sorry, I missed your comment... Yeah, it's Java at the moment, but I need to test the performance on Linux/arm on the Pi. The update rate may not be ideal. Plus, the above screenshot is a real beta, it will look a bit nicer and more polished when finished

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Hi Tristan, Thanks! I do agree that it would be nice to make it look epic. The problem, is that this is a track-only car... I need to have large non-confusing information available at a glance. If this was a road-car then sure, it would be a crime ;-) Cheers Rhys

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Bit of an update, things have been moving pretty quickly behind the scenes. I got my block back after being bored out to ~84mm and set about cleaning it up ready for paint. After one coat of high-temperature enamel paint I think it came out OK... Thanks to Andyrg, I've now got rods...

    That dreaded cam decision...

Hi All, Some of you may know that I'm in the middle of a high-comp forged engine rebuild project. I'm trying to make my mind up on the choice of cam. I've been searching and reading a load of threads but after some advice. As I will have aftermarket management and uprated valve springs, I've...

    MacBook refurbs?

I'd say that for 500 quid you could get a relatively decent 3-4 year old MacBook with enough punch to do whatever she's been doing already. As for other than eBay I'm not sure. Sorry!

Lovely - how many degrees of camber are you running in the front? Also, what wipers are those?

    New track tyres...what's best?

I've used the RSR's for a couple of years and recently opted for the R888's to try out, and they're definitely better. However, I'm not sure they justify the almost double cost.

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Actually I'd have to disagree. GPS speed is more accurate than the speedo in the car. And as it's a track day car, it's not a huge concern :-)

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Possible, although I was thinking that MPH would need to come from GPS - as I don't think the ECU will provide me with MPH considering the speedo comes directly from the gearbox? Happy to be proven wrong though! :-)

    Engine Rebuild Project (260hp/ton)

Another quick update whilst the engine is off for boring... I'm building up a custom dash for the car, based on a Raspberry Pi and an HD 9" display. Embedded computing and programming is something I've been involved with in the past and I want to continue this, so as a project for the car and...

Apparently, part numbers #2 and #16 are: 2 - 7700106271 16 - 8200058022 But according to others, you need to buy kit #8: 7701471629 Can anyone confirm this?
