if I had more time when I reshelled the car I would have spent a couple of hours figuring out the differences between the old and new style block.
apart from the more obvious (starter on the opposite side) would be nice to see how the 6 speed mounts on later generation scenics and clios to see...
My best real life consumption figure, back when I was commuting in and out of London in late 2019, was 62.47mpg. 725miles out of almost 53L fill up. This was done averaging 60/65mph on motorways and very easy on the throttle round town.
Best one I got during this trip is 62, but I was never...
so, summer trip recap.
In my last post I said the car was going to be aligned before the big journey. Well it was, 3 times in total, and it’s still not right.
I had the car on the Hunter ramp a week before leaving and sorted front toe and camber but, as always, had to rush it first thing in...
This was becoming a real money pit and I’m kinda glad you decided to cut your losses. Great little cars, you just have to be lucky with these fuel systems !
Quite upset this happened now, I would have loved to get this shell as I’m very fond of this dark blue!!
I’m glad my very little knowledge...
Had the car detailed to see if it would come up any good, and it did. Clay bar, compound and polish and this is the result, I wish I was better at taking pictures !
I’m sure this is the best it will ever look, as I won’t probably be changing the dented panels to make it perfect.
I’m getting...
more work tonight, time to get back to those shiny new shocks for some unfinished business.
Here’s what’s left of the off side top mount bearing, noice.
New Febi top mount kits go on on both sides, as well as some new bumpstops.
Happy shocks, now back on.
I also fitted some...
the fact that every couple of months I end up saying “only a couple of jobs left..” makes me laugh.
Been working on diesel clios for 3 years now [emoji38]
This black one really just needs two or three panels changing and a head unit with CarPlay and it’s all the car I can ever want (with 300...
I was going to do a write down of everything done to the car lately but with this 10 image limit I’ll have to split it in more parts.
1st task:
I have only recently realized there’s two versions of the xenon headlights, one grey the other black. My old red Clio had the black type, this new one...
Have a look round the injectors. Wouldn’t want it to be those seals again with the roadside RAC jobbo ...
these common rail diesels have a shitload of compression, here’s why you’d want the seat cleaned and the bolts torqued to spec when fitting new washers.
The reason why I’m saying this is...
quick update, I finally managed to get off my ass and do something productive.
2 months on furlough have absolutely killed my productivity that was already close to zero..
But here we are:
Driver seat renovation:
This is the seat out of the black car already out and half stripped.
The plan...
this was a pleasure to read, top work.
For a little less than £300 all I managed to get was a non runner diesel, you got a low miler 172 cup.. hats off to you sir !
oh christ, they cable tied the motor to the column, the frontmost torx bolt is a pig to get in, and judging by the presence of a cable tie, it's probably not there at all.
Try and look for it, it's positioned 6 o clock compared to the other one that you can see the front of in the picture...
and yes I also have column bolts if that helps, but they're on the red car which is miles away from where I live now, so same story as the seals unfortunately.
Well, whoever worked on the car should now put it back to working order, these are clearly things they skimped on trying to get this car out of their workshop, so yes, it has to go back there; any other workshop will just milk Austin of more money and that's not right.
No idea why the steering...
Rip the steering surround off, flathead behind the audio control stalk to pop it off and 3 torx screws sandwich bottom and top together. With that off you should see all the bolts you need to access.
Better to not loosen the steering column adjuster (I did it with it loose but this is what the...
Yeah, those are the bolts.
Re centralize the column (ie, shake it around until you’re on those markings again), and torque everything up.
To do a nice job here’s the tightening sequence, 20nm on the bolts.
jeez looks like the 4 bolts that locate the column are loose !!
those should be done up in a specific sequence. Get down in there and look straight up, you'll see 4 13mm bolts that fix the column to the upper dash dupport.
have they had the steering column off ? if so, why ?
If that is the...
With all this injector swapping left and right wouldn’t surprise me is @Brigsy was right, the injector seals (and seats) need to be renewed.
I have been following this drama from the start and believe me when I say I feel for you, unfortunately when you’re in the hands of other people there...
No they don’t, sport shocks use different bolts and bolt spacing compared to standard ones.
If you read a couple of pages back you’ll see it in the pictures.
Thanks Brigsy that's exactly what I wanted to do but could not find the official part number and RPD never got back to me with an answer, and therefore I had no choice but to get in there myself and see what I could do to fix it since oil was dripping from it at idle, scary.
If you could get...
Hi people,
A quick random update to just continue my online service history record;
We left the action with my car leaking copious amounts of oil everywhere.
I could not fix it quickly as I’ve recently been told off for using the workshop too often and From now on I can only do it once a...
New car update, dealing with the little niggles common to big jobs done in a hurry.
First things first let’s pass a legit MOT shall we ?
Well, let’s say it would not have passed if I didn’t know the tester, but the faults were only minor, like headlight aim and a failed ball joint boot which...
(...)
Time to wack the fuel tank, exhaust and rear axle on, man that was tricky with only 2 arms and legs !!
At this point all I had to do was fit all the front suspension back on, fill up with fluids, check for leaks and turn the key.
Ha!! Not there yet, crank but no start. It’s an...
