Austin’s Clio dci 100 Initiale

Yeah, those are the bolts.

Re centralize the column (ie, shake it around until you’re on those markings again), and torque everything up.

To do a nice job here’s the tightening sequence, 20nm on the bolts.

Thanks mate, I can only see 2 bolts though from looking underneath? The bolts pictured above are the same 2 from different angles.

Rip the steering surround off, flathead behind the audio control stalk to pop it off and 3 torx screws sandwich bottom and top together. With that off you should see all the bolts you need to access.
Better to not loosen the steering column adjuster (I did it with it loose but this is what the manual recommends)

Car absolutely stinks of exhaust emissions if that might be any indicator as to what the loud ticking noise is?

Would the injector seals cause a strong smell of emissions? @Brigsy

Yes it will stink of diesel fumes. Should be able to find out what cylinder is leaking when the engine is idling, or as @YorkshireKyle said the black gunk.

As above the injector seals are pennies, should be replaced and seats cleaned up in the head, and injector clamps torqued up properly, or they fail.

Shine a torch down the side of the injector and look for any black gunk

f**k knows why he didnt replace the fire seals anyway the spastic t**t. They're about £5 ffs

Im not sure mate maybe he has. I haven't asked him yet but iv asked about column and he didn't take that off. Its going back in next Monday so he can have a look.

Just checked injectors with phone torch and hard to tell tbh. The new injector looks to be missing a little white clio although not sure it matters anyway and maybe don't all come with them?

The seals are way down under them rusty crows feet clamps mate

Another good way to test if they're leaking is to spray water into the hole around the injector and see if it turns black or bubbles up

Cheers Brigsy! Makes me a bit less worried now. Wont have caused an issue to the injector if it is that will it? And would you say I'm safe to drive back down boro from mine like that?

Well looks like 100% injector seal. Just fired up and theres smoke coming out. Not sure if its injector 3 or 4 though, cant work it out. Maybe 4 due to the cylinder 4 misfire code, or maybe its both. f**king stinks!

Its not ideal but should be able to drive it steady, check the clamps are still on the injectors just incase

I think from this thread alone I'll never use this 'specialist'. Amazing going to the expense of a new engine and then swapping unknown quality parts over.

And you still want to take it back to him and have confidence he will sort it!

Well, whoever worked on the car should now put it back to working order, these are clearly things they skimped on trying to get this car out of their workshop, so yes, it has to go back there; any other workshop will just milk Austin of more money and that's not right.

No idea why the steering column was off, as clearly somebody has been there and, like with the engine, tried to rush the reassembly to have the car out the door.

I understand the frustration when something looks like it will never be right no matter how many parts you change. but unfortunately what whoever worked on the car lacked was knowledge of these particular diesel Clios; with that, they'd tackled the issue methodically instead of aking the customer dish out an immense amount of money because of their wrong guesswork.

I usually stand on the side of techs and workshops, but in this case, they have taken advantage of Austin's trust, so now they should put it right.

I have a set of injector seals that I bough years ago funny enough, but without being at work I;m afraid you;d have to wait for the end of lockdown for me to post them to you austin. they're only pennies anyway.

Thanks @Mazz I have ordered the injector seals online tonight and the bolt i will find from somewhere, although thats the least of my worries at the minute.

Im sure Kris will sort it. He did work hard on the car and i know he put a lot of hours i to it, it just happens it was unfortunate in this scenario and it took a lot of new parts before realising the original engine was also knackered and a replacement engine was the only thing that could get it running again. I could also argue that had Renparts not messed up and sent me an engine with injectors like agreed and paid for, then the issue with the seals wouldn't have happened anyway.

I just need it sorting and running so I don't feel like I have wasted such a huge amount of money.

Also, any ideas why this part near the column would be cable tied or if its just something from the factory?

oh christ, they cable tied the motor to the column, the frontmost torx bolt is a pig to get in, and judging by the presence of a cable tie, it's probably not there at all.

Try and look for it, it's positioned 6 o clock compared to the other one that you can see the front of in the picture.

this is probably something that went down in the previous life of this car, i doubt these guys had the column off as there should be no reason for it at all.

Sorry to hear about all your problems @Austin-182

Renparts are absolutely flipping useless mate, I fully understand your issues as I’m having the same with them at the moment!

I still cant het over the service I had from them. The lady who I spoke to throughout was unbelievable a real life blagger, excuse after excuse and quite simply a liar even when presented with evidence.

Sorry to hear you are having the same problems, I really hope you get it sorted.

My refund had been done but it takes 28 days to go back on your card apparently. It took an abrupt call in the end which isn't how I like to deal with things and funny enough the payment magically went straight into my bank.

I’m hoping not to have to go that far but may have to :(

My part is only a £90 meggy hub but is now into the 3rd week of waiting and I want to get my meggy finished off whilst I am furloughed. Yes this is the problem she just comes out with so much cr@p that she trips herself up and can’t remember what she has said. I have said just be honest and say you don’t have the part and I will find another, but says it has definitely been sent but can’t provide a tracking number as it’s internal delivery?

For me, i was told engine would be delivered in 3 days max. I rang a week later after Kris asked me where the engine was and I had assumed he already had it. When i rang she said it had been sent and she would chase up with the courier and would let me know. She never ever called back and I had to keep ringing for the update. I was told it would be delivered tomorrow and 5 days later still no engine. In the end, I rang the courier company who provided me with a copy of the details of when Renparts placed the order for the engine delivery, which was 3 days after i had rang to initially chase up where it was. And this was all before i even had to deal with the issue of missing injectors and faulty pump! Never ever again!

I have since heard that they often sell parts they do t even have and then try to either source them elsewhere or even buy a whole car for the part. Would explain why the delivery takes so long and you get excuse after excuse.

Im still waiting for the email and letter in the post for the invoice I have asked for 4 times.

Yes sounds just like what she is doing to me. She has said she will ring me back on 2 occasions and never rang. I then ring back and get “sorry been so busy haven’t had chance to ring you but the courier have said it’s on the way but I will rand them again”.
Saying she will ring me this morning - only has an hour left!
She said yesterday that she will have another meggy coming in soon, so I asked why does she need another car when she had a “few on the shelve” when I purchased originally!
Looks like I will making another phone call this afternoon, lol.
Rant over :)

Waiting for the RAC to come and get towed to the garage. I told them i believe it to be injector seals and they rang me back saying the mechanic said if the engine is noisy it wont be the seals...

Heres an update, the dci is still broke.

Oil leak, leaving drops in about 5-6 different places when parked up. Any idea as i dont?

starts, drives well. Stop to go in a shop etc, get back in car and it wont start. Takes ages to finally start. Just keeps cranking and cranking and finally turns over.

Below lights coming on All the time. At first is was under heavy load 70-80mph. Now its all the time, but goes off after a few seconds. Like i say though, still driving really well.

Problem is I cant even sell it on now due to the above issues.if anyone can guess what it would be that would be great. Im considering listing is as “spares or repairs” or breaking it, although not sure it would even make much.

FS!

Oil leaks can be turbo oil feed, cam and crank seals and rocker cover.

Needs scanning with clip to see why the eml is on.

Have a look round the injectors. Wouldn’t want it to be those seals again with the roadside RAC jobbo ...
these common rail diesels have a shitload of compression, here’s why you’d want the seat cleaned and the bolts torqued to spec when fitting new washers.

The reason why I’m saying this is because yours seems to be a hot start issue, and usually compression could have something to do with it.
As far as the oil leak without some pictures it’s difficult to tell, once it gets soaked the best approach is to clean everything and keep an eye on it before it becomes a mess again so you can actually have an idea of where it’s coming from.

I had hot start issue on mine and cam sensor was the issue. Needs scanning to see whats stored or pissing in the wind though.

Bit late to the party now but mine had a similar issue and it was a tiny pin prick hole in the fuel line letting air into the system.
