Taken at Bala at the weekend moments before going a494, Evo triangle, a470, a4212. Awesome circuit of roads, my favourite complete set in the area and even better at 7am on a Sunday morning.
Ph2 is slightly softer and has traction control and fly by wire throttle rather than cable and just a nicer place to sit. I would but the best car I can find for the money history and condition wise and forget about whether it's a ph1 or ph2.
I picked up a ph1 172 with full documented history including cambelt change for £1200 and tbh I was desperate to get a car and it was a tidy example. If I hopped a but harder I may have got similar for a bit less. Definitely find a good 172 at £1500.
Tbh 197s simply aren't cheap to run.
17inch wheels = expensive tyres
Brembo four pots = expensive pads and discs
Then you have the poor fuel consumption and countless other bits
My first was a 1.6 8v mk2 ph1 and I bloody loved it, pretty sure it's dead now though :(
Then had my 197 and now my ph1. Always been a car in between though.
