Putting the cat back on will get rid of the rasp, and make more of a droney type sound. Will it did do with my Ktec stealth system.
I personally prefer a raspy sounding exhaust mind.
If the temp gauge sits on the middle line then you could leave it. You will probably need a new rubber o seal for it though, you don't need sealant mate. I have heard issues of ECP thermostats not fitting properly so would personally only replace with a OEM T-stat

As above. You don't to change the thermostat.
I just changed my coolant hoses and also changed the T-stat as they don't last that long ( my temp gauge sat just under the middle) And for the sake of £20 it was worth while doing all together.

I also noticed this morning...
I took the 172 out a run the other week and on returning I noticed some water on the drive. Under closer inspection she was leaking coolant from a split hose. The coolant hoses are all original so a good excuse to change to some silicone hoses. I also plan on changing the manky expansion tank...
