Diesel has a fairly low specific gravity. There's not much floats in it. Nothing that would float in it would be any worse than what could possibly sit in the bottom of the tank anyway. I've ran my tank to almost empty for 40k miles and it's done no harm.

I'd have thought 50mpg was a bit low in a dci65 tbh. Although it depends how stop/start your commute is I suppose.

Got the rest of the weekend's jobs done today. Both track rods and ends fitted either side, and new ball joints. Put the TRE's back on same amount of turns as the old ones came off, and the alignment was still MILES out afterwards, but the car shouldn't be moving much in the next week or so...

Part 1 of this weekend complete... Got the tyres fitted, and started work on the track rods/ends and ball joints. Track rods are a pain in the hole! Had a tool for removing them but it turned out to be as useful as a f**king ashtray on a motorbike. So binned that idea off, went to halfrauds...
