Hi, I'm tasked with changing the gearbox in my Clio tomorrow.
Can anyone provide any pointers, or their experience of doing it?
I've heard conflicting stories regarding the removal - one claiming the whole subframe needs to be dropped to do it, another claiming you can drop it on one side and...
I made a video (well, the sound is the far more important part) of my car making the noise which has been diagnosed as diff bearings.
I was hoping someone has had the same issue and can confirm (or deny) this.

How much success did you have?
Was there much left at the end?
Excluding aftermarket bits, can you give an idea of what you made from it?
How much of your stuff was shipped and how much collected in person?
My Clio is for sale, and after the gearbox needs replacing I'm contemplating whether...
I think the diff is noisy, I'm getting a very fast but soft knocking which goes away out of drive.
Can bearings be sourced easily? Or is it better to just find another box from a breaker?
Opinions?
I'm not interested in the fact that H&R, KW or AST are better, just a comparison between standard Cup suspension and the Ktec kit.
Ideally, comparing brand new items against brand new items.
What is the OEM paint code for the cup packed anthracite wheels?
I'd also like to consider the darker anthracite of the Trophy Turinis, does anyone have the code and/or a picture of the standard 182 wheels in this colour?
Is it needed? One of the studs have snapped on mine, not a huge issue I don't expect, I just don't have time to do it for a week or two, but the vibration noise is really bugging me.
Is it just there to protect the fuel rail in the event of a smash or does it have some other purpose?
So I changed my discs and pads today.
Firstly I learnt that I shouldn't work on the car tired when I pumped the brakes to undo the front disc grub screws, forgetting I'd already taken the rears off. Fortunately the pistons wound back in OK, and off we went.
Bleeding was an utter pain, OSR and...
My biggest gripe with my Clio is the quality/compliance of the ride. Now that doesn't mean that I want it to be comfortable, but what I want it to do is not to skip about, bump steer and generally be a pain in the arse at higher speeds. This is not an issue with how hard or soft the suspension...
As above, I've observed a whine since fitting new belts, tensioners and idlers. Now I've no idea if it was there before as the noise of the duff de-phaser pulley probably would have covered it up. Pitch changes with RPM and it is not audible at idle.
Is it easy to put too much tension on the...
Now I know the top mounts do not sit flush on the turret, but one side should be, shouldn't it?
My offside top mount is actually sat 10mm about the turret at it's lowest side, and around 20mm on it's highest. I've pulled it apart, and found the top nut underneath was lose, and evident of...
Well, not as focussed as I'd like, the car still needs to be compliant on the road.
What I mean by Focused is, I couldn't give rats arse about ride height or "stance", and thus coilovers may not be what I need, assuming someone like Koni sells some dampers that are valved correctly and I can...
I was waiting to come out of Puckpool, I did wave but was perhaps a little too late :)
As a side note, I'm completely gutted I missed that wheel yesterday - I've been waiting for something cheap to pop up, then I miss something local :(
I've got the car booked in at a local place with a hawk-eye system, and I'm curious what kind of results people have had with different geometry settings?
I imagine the standard settings are done with saving the planet (and your tyres) in mind - I'm after something a little more focussed.
What...
I first noticed this a week ago when the SERV light lit and the trip computer displayed "oil" followed by a row of dashes, knowing it was last serviced at 132k (now on 136k) I moved the car to a flat and checked the oil just in case it was also used as an indication of low oil level. Oil was...
Out on a drive this evening, I pulled up, made a phone call and then headed off to hear something whining from the engine bay. A quick tug of the steering wheel and it's immediately apparent that it is the PAS. Reservoir is way below min and there is a puddle under the car with PAS fluid...
With the car sat on the floor, my top mounts are not sitting flush on the turret, but rather slightly raised at an angle - you can kid of see it in the photo below;
Apologies if it seems like a silly question, I've never had a car where the top mount doesn't bolt to the turret, and my gut...
So I picked my 182 up a couple of weeks ago for an absolute steal.
Outside it is almost completely mint, owing to a life of motorways (no idea what would possess someone to buy a 182 for this task, mind!).
It is on 135k miles but given it has lived most of it's life on the motorway, it is in...
I need something that'll do the following;
Bluetooth calls,
A2DP Playback,
Preferably iPod and USB connectivity, although no essential.
It should be able to interface with the existing steering wheel controls with a cable that doesn't cost a fortune, and it would be great if it could display...
Discs are quite worn, so I'm looking at replacing everything.
I've been hunting some braided hoses on the cheap, and have plenty of 5.1, but not entirely sure what to do about discs and pads.
I do not want to spent a huge amount of money on the best Brembo discs and expensive pads etc. but...
I was just reading the thread about 1*2 vs 197, and noticed some people have had a fair few Renaults.
I doubt I can remember all of the cars I've had, but it ranges from a Calibra, Rover 220 Coupé, Genuine ACS 325 all the way down to a banged out old £35 R5.
The last four years has consisted...
I've already posted up one New Member thread, but I feel actually buying a Clio now warrants a proper one.
I'm from the Isle of Wight and I've just bought a 182 FF.
I'll let the pics do the talking, taken after a good old clean and polish, topped off with a coat of Z2P:
As per title, I'm going to look at a Ph2 172 with a failed cambelt tomorrow, from a quick discussion with the vendor it looks like the auxbelt snapped and wrapped its self around the cambelt. He claims the cambelt did not snap and that the cambelt simply slipped.
Either way, I'm budgeting for...
