You can use VAGCOM (now called VCDS) on your car. It has OBD-II functionality (there's a button for it on the main screen) which you can use to connect to your engine ECU, to read error codes, clear them and read out various other parameters.
No point in buying anything else!
fuel_slut,
At no point have I claimed to be an 'expert' on tyres. I have replied to people's questions where I feel qualified to answer, and given my opinion where appropriate.
People have knowledge in different areas, and this just happens to be an area I know quite a lot about.
Cue,
It may be worth your while reading http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/TireStorage.pdf
I'm not sure exactly the best thing to do with your tyres, but I would recommend bringing them in out of the cold asap and inspect them to see how deep the cracking is. If it's not too deep your should...
Worth having a look at http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?p=3610555 as a lot of the same points were covered, and a lot of fact and fiction separated.
A picture of my Cup on Apex springs.
And a picture of the same car on Eibach Sportline springs.
Yes the car sat slightly lower on the Apex, but the ride was appalling. It felt as though it was basically on the bump stops, very crashy, fidgety and completely unsettled. Anyone who thinks...
If it was my money, PE2s (but as you've said availability is hit and miss), after that the Goodyear Eagle F1s. You can get 4 F1s delivered for £296 (Blackcircles or Camskill).
I've been running F1s on the Cup for 15 months, still decent tread left on all 4, and you followed me down my route to...
Little way from Norwich, but Treadfirst in Diss will fit tyres bought anywhere. Good bunch of guys, and you can just drop in whenever to get them done.
As for Toyos, the words 'barge touch wouldn't with a pole', spring to mind, but that's my personal opinion. There are much better tyres...
I would be very surprised if fmp's tyres were running at anything like 45psi.
If we assume he inflated them to 30psi when cold (lets say 20°C), then due to the fact that the air in the tyres is governed by the ideal gas law (it does not follow it completely, but is close enough for this...
Good first effort, but a few comments (all just my opinion).
-One spelling mistake (conjours - conjures). If you didn't pick this up, then PH should have done.
-Are you American or English? You use 'maneuvering' and 'centerpiece', both of which are the American spellings.
-In the article you...
KWP2000, is the base, with manufacturers implementing slightly different flavours of it (i.e. the VAG implementation is slightly different to Fiat's).
Other than being able to read DTCs, delete DTCs and read out some basic data, you will not be able to do anything else with a cheap diagnostic...
Bressingham garden centre. All the cars were parked up neatly, engines off and no-one was doing anything stupid, so the lady's attitude was completely uncalled for!
Other than that it was a really good meet. Quite a few cars turned up and it was good to meet everyone. I think Timmay may be...
To everyone who attended this meet,
It was very good to meet you all and speak to you.
For those of you who came out to have some photographs taken of the cars, I apologise for seemingly racing off out of the car park without saying goodbye.
Unfortunately I had noticed that the lady from...
Doesn't have to be an expensive gauge. I've got one of these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/ilpg1-tyre-pressure-gauge-with-in-line-h (by the looks of it you may struggle to get this from machine mart now) and its readings are virtually identical to the £300 pressure gauge we...
Two questions for you:
1. What gauge are you using to meausure the pressures?
Don't rely on the gauge on your foot pump, or petrol station air line. Go down to Halfords or Machine Mart and get a reasonable pressure gauge (something like £5).
2. When did you set your tyre pressures?
Don't forget...
You can set your tyre pressures either with the wheels off the car, the car jacked up in the air, or with the wheels fitted normally to the car and they will all be the same.
Having the car's weight on the wheels does not affect the pressures inside the tyres.
Was at the Nurburgring yesterday spectating after testing there Thursday and Friday. Noticed three English Clios lapping.
Here's some pictures of them. Don't know if they're anyone off here.
This guy had a nicely caged up Clio and looked fairly serious. Was lapping quite quickly, but...
Fred,
Where does the ABS wiring run from, and what is its route on the car?
At the moment I'd prefer not to say what it's for, but it's not for anything like lights. I'll post up information when it's all done.
If I go out through the rear light grommets, what's the route for getting it...
I need to run some wiring (3 core screened, 24 gauge) to behind both of the rear arch liners on my 172 Cup. I haven't removed the liners yet to have a look, and was hoping someone could tell me where the nearest grommet would be that I can get a cable out of to run to behind the arch liners...
CAN offers a number of benefits. You can have a complete bus running round the car, with all your ECUs on it, and it only requires 2 wires (high and low). The CAN bus is tolerant to a lot of faults, and most buses can actually run in a single wire mode.
With regard to diagnostics, CAN is...
The 172s also had a CAN bus on them from 2001/2002. If you remove the ash tray you'll see the OBD connector. If you look closely, you'll see that Pins 6 & 14 are populated. These are CAN H and CAN L.
If you put a multimeter across these two pins (with the ignition switched off!) you'll see a...
