Bad luck dude - if it's any consolation I had the same with my 106 GTi before getting my Clio. I got offered £4800 but had another buyer promising £5000 when her car had sold. She sold her car, got something else and I ended up selling the car 5 months later for £4200.

I've raced my 182 against my mate's GT4 and it pi55ed all over me on the 1/4 mile at Crail! His is a 2.0L turbo with 320bhp against my n/a 2.0L meaning I lose everytime!

If your name is on the documentation regardless of who is paying for the car then you are classed as the owner.
