The 1.5 dci engines are fairly tuneable and they are very reliable. Tbh most Renault engines seem to be pretty reliable these days.
Mpg is epic on dci's i think the 80 is the best on fuel too.

Best thing to do is sign up as a proper member and PM G 172, he is the cheapest around.
It depends how much track work its going to get, light use and DS2500's/Yellowstuffs are good, more extreme and you may want BlueStuff/DS3000's/RC6's.
For general road use Brembo OEM's are king.

Not much to check, but exhaust and cambelt are biggies both being ~£500 jobs
Not much else goes wrong, you could do the fancy dash trick to check for warning/error codes. (hold the trip computer button in as you turn the ignition on)
