remember that all amps have caps inside them on the supply voltage rails
so the amp already as a little backup inside and being that it's at a higher voltage is more effective.
the reason caps don't work is because you can use the whole amount of stored power only a very small amount
the reason why i said about the ports as i know when i boot my pc some sata ports are run from the northbridge and some run from the sounthbridge so you can hot swap
The power cable was cut when i got it so i stripped it then joined the two together with electrical tape.
did you use some sort of connector or just tape?
