Has the head unit been standard all through the life of the car?
Sounds as if permanent and switched 12V feed as been swapped over. These are the yellow and red connectors on the ISO plug.

Mine was out for the count, no way it was going to work again. I think the MOSFET was fried in mine, but I guess it could be dry solder. Shame the one in my link is no longer available, would be interesting to know if the one you got works also so I can update the guide.

I finally got around to doing this.
Symptoms
Climate control computer is ON and temperature and blower control appears to work, but no air is blown from the vents...

Yes, there's an combined stalk and display adaptor from Alpine. Look on their UK website. Costs abot £85 so much more expensive than the 3rd party stalk control only models.
They can with a display stalk adaptor for about £85 ... displays radio station, track names on ipod and bluetooth operation.
Only genuine Alpine one will work, any aftermarket adaptors will display nothing or "ALPINE" or similar on the clock screen.
Good bit of kit if you want to keep OEM...
