It could be the throttle is sticking. Its a common problem. It needs the throttle body taking off and thoroughly cleaning and lubricating. I had mine done recently after the throttle was racing sometimes.
The exhaust is prone to movement under acceleration if the engine and dogbone bushes are worn. I've replaced all the mountings on my 172 now and no more movement. Fitted K Tec engine mounts and Powerflex dogbone bush.
It all depends on who is doing the remap as to how good it is. I had my diesel Nissan Primastar done 3 years ago and it did improve the performance by about 30% overall. More torque and power and better fuel consumption. But after 90,000 miles the timing chain snapped wrecking the engine. I'm...
Really the whole kit should be done and if there's any play in the dephaser pulley it will affect the timing. My cambelt has just been done at Birchdown and it's transformed the engine. They fitted a new dephaser on it as it was really noisy and very badly worn. It feels much better to drive...
The roughness when cold has gone as well since the dephaser was changed. It's transformed the way the engine responds and performs. If the pulley is badly worn it knocks the timing out and also the timing can't be set accurately due to the movement in the pulley.
It's fairly likely to be the dephaser pulley. My engine was whirring like it had a noisy alternator. I had the car into Birchdown for the cambelt and they said the dephaser pulley was badly worn and needed replacing. Since that was done the engine is nice and quiet again. Anyone who has a...
I've just had the cambelt replaced on mine and auxiliary belts and replaced the dephaser pulley as that was shot. Fitted K Tec engine mountings and Powerflex dogbone bush as well as an engine damper. Since the cambelt has been done the engine feels much better. I think the worn dephaser pulley...
You probably need a new battery. My car did similar to this the other weekend while I was in the middle of a forest marshalling on a rally. I managed to bump start it and got it home but the battery just suddenly died completely. I tried jump starting but that didn't work. I had to buy a new...
What sort of plug leads are they? Some of the cheap ones break down and can track across the insulation. I fitted competition leads on my 172 and they are fine.
Is it possible to download pdf files from anywhere for the stereo in the 172 ? I can't figure out how to get the AF setting to switch on. I bought the car with no handbooks 3 years ago and just found my way round most stuff. Any info much appreciated.
If you give the reg number and chassis number to main dealers they will tell you the code. I rang SMC Renault and they were very helpful when I lost the code on mine a couple of weeks ago. No charge either.
I met a chap from Chester that refurbs steering wheels when we went to a show and shine day in wrexham recently. He quoted me £120 to do mine and he will come to the house and remove the wheel from the car and return it a few days later. I've not got the leaflet on me at the moment but when I...
I can't make it either if its still this saturday. It's easier for me on a weekday as I'm less busy during the week. It's been a while since I did a weekday run. If anyone fancies meeting up on a weekday then let me know.
All the Renaultsport cars are Hand built in a separate factory in Dieppe and in Seville. The attention to detail is meticulous. Every car is fully inspected before it leaves the build area and any faults rectified. I was in the Alpine Factory in May and was amazed how much time is put into each...
Best securing it with rivets if it's on a track car. Just remember it needs to be kept out of heavy rain if the car isn't being used or it Will let loads of water into the engine bay. I had one on a fiat a few years ago
Company in chester repairs wheels. Smartrepairco
Very good and not expensive. Quoted me around £52 per wheel for a full repaint. Probably less if it's just small repair. Depends on type of rim and how it's finished.
