    Euro Road Trip

I've got brembo HC front discs, DS 2500 pads all round and Toyo R1-R Tyres. The car handles superbly and the brakes are mustard. Just done 380 miles through lake district over the pennines to Northumberland and back to chester over north pennines and Hartside Pass both ways. Stunning roads and...

Blue 172 cup with carbon fibre bonnet that lost its top half of bonnet

I was at Carr & Griffiths yesterday for my taxi to get its first MOT and Council test. got talking to the guy doing the test and he told me one the mechanics there has a blue 172 Cup that has a K-Tec carbon fibre bonnet. Apparently he was going down the motorway when the bonnet delaminated. He's...

    Meet in Cheshire area

How about a daytime meet during the week sometime after 18th September? The last daytime midweek one I went to was really good. I am always busy at weekends and at night during the week with taxi work. As the nights are drawing in a daytime run out makes more sense. We could meet at Chester...

Crewe meet 8pm (11th of September)

Damn another meet I cant do! I'm away on holiday on the 11th for a week. Maybe if you do meet up again in Crewe I'll be able to get over there.

    mini meet chester!!

Hope you had a good mini meet. I was busy getting my taxi cleared and clean ready to trade it in later today. I heard you all going from Roots N Shoots from my house half a mile away! It sounded awesome! I'll bring my new Renault Trafic Sport taxi to one of the meets sometime.

    World Series by Renault, 2011

Overall the event was very good. There didn't seem to be as many stands as last year but there were several different ones to last time including a wide display of vehicles that were coachbuilt by various independent companies using Renault supplied vehicles. I spent a long time talking to...

    Not enough RONs

I have used 95 ron a couple of times when I needed fuel and wasn't near a station that sold super unleaded. The car does run much better on super unleaded and unbelievably seems to run better on Shell V power than supermarket super unleaded. I filled up at Sainsburys before going to Silverstone...

Road trip to scotland in september??

I go up to Mull via Glasgow and Oban for the Tour of Mull Rally in October and it's a mega drive up there. The road along the west side of the Loch Lomond is stunning and so is the road on the east. Mull has some awesome roads. You can take a ferry from Oban that takes about 45 minutes. There's...

    Mini manchester meet.

I can't make it this time either. Thursday night is usually busy for me. On a different note, how many are going to Silverstone this weekend? I'm going Sunday but the forecast isn't good.

    World Series @ Silverstone

Is anybody going to the World Series weekend at Silverstone? The owners stand is away from the main village this time. Apparently last year some cars were scratched/damaged due to being right by the main entrance and everyone walking past the cars.

    Cliosport.net day! Opinions?

I was impressed at the turnout and the variety of cars. The museum was very interesting. A lot of cars in there I'd never seen before. Lets hope the National gathering gets bigger next year. The trade stands were good. Maybe more will come and support it next time.

What do you keep in your boot?

I only fit the strut brace on trackdays now. It makes the suspension too hard for normal road use and restricts the room in the boot. I keep a rucksack with breakdown kit in it and various jackets etc. If I'm marshalling then it's full of all my hi vis stuff and all my marshalling kit depending...

Should I carry on with the Clio?

Mine has standard Renaultsport suspension and handles brilliantly on track and road. It doesnt spin up the inside front wheel on track at all. I had been using Toyo T1-R's on the car but now have a set of R1-R's fitted. Brakes are Ferodo DS2500 on the front with Brembo High Carbon discs, and EBC...

wanting to change to a 255 clio V6

I would love a LY V6 Clio. My wife hates the colour so that makes me want one even more!! Maybe one day when I've got some room in the garage I might buy one for some fun.:race:

    Forum Newbie Considering a 172 Cup/197

My car is the Phase1 model non-cup and its superb. Its done 115,000 miles and is still sharp. The standard Renaultsport dampers are firm anyway and really make the car handle well. The Eibach units are very expensive to replace ,a full set would almost cost as much as a phase 1 car! I've...

How many miles does a clio engine last for?

Engines will easily last higher mileages now. They are much better built and the oils used are far better at protecting the internals. It all depends how well its been serviced and how its been driven.

Black 172 at Vicars Cross lights.

Was it someone off here that I just had a dice with at the lights? I was in my 172 heading towards Hoole roundabout and spotted a black 172 alongside me going for it so I responded. Never done that before but such a blast!

    'no power to ECU'

Its possible there's a break in the wiring harness where it connects to the ECU. I had it with mine. Someone had used a probe into the live feed and left a hole in the insulation which allowed water to penetrate into the core of the wire and caused it to corrode to the point that it just...

    Considering a clio diesel

Clio Dci probably a good buy. The Pug 106 is a flimsy car in comparison and the 1.5 non turbo engine is noisy and slow. The 306 is a good car to look at and drives well. it has passive rear steering same as Citroen ZX.

    Wirral Meet

A trip up the wirral sounds good. Some good roads across the top end between Heswall , Moreton and New Brighton via Saughall Massie. Had a taxi run over there after Chester races.

Swapping my 172 cup for a DCI

Just keep the car you already have. Its not going to break the bank to run. Mine gets used locally and for long journeys and its far more economical than my Astra 1.6! Average 33mpg which is respectable for a powerful 2 litre car. The Astra only returns 26mpg at best.
  29. mark smith87

    Clio rs owners age.

I'm 53. The Clio is really cheap fun and brilliant to drive. And its economical as well. Jut been to Yorkshire and back on half a tank of petrol on a mix of A roads and motorways. If I'd done the same trip in my wife's 1.6 Astra it would have use around 8 gallons to do the same trip. Average...

    1st May. Run to Hawes.

The timings are ambitious on that route. Theres no way you'll do the round trip inside 39 minutes unless the roads are totally empty and you're driving something totally loopy. Best of luck though! I'll have to try that piece of road from Langwathby across to Brampton,I've never driven that...
