I run R1-R's on the track and most of the time on the road even in ice and snow. Tried T1-R's and they crack up after a lot of hard use and wear very quickly. I've not tried 888's yet but might give them a try next time. They can be a bit noisy on the road though. Burpspeed use R1-R's on their...
To be honest if you get the suspension rock hard its uncomfortable to drive on anything other than ultra smooth Tarmac. The adjustable dampers that I have on the back are on the lowest setting at the moment and that's just right for me. The front struts are standard and are well up to the task...
I've been doing track days in my 172 for the last six years. I use DS2500 pads all round, Brembo HC front discs, DOT5.1 fluid and braided lines. Just replaced the rear dampers with Koni Sport adjustable instead of standard Renault stuff. Standard springs all round. Toyo R1-R tyres.
K Tec engine...
The Struggle from Ambleside to top of the Kirkstone pass is good as we'll then carry on down it and follow up to J40 M6 and cross over and pick up the A686 Hartside Pass and go as far as Hexham then along the A69 to Corbridge turn off which is the A68. Turn left up the hill and follow signs for...
What wheels are they ? OZ rims don't need spigot rings to fit on my 172 but I also have a set of 17" Wolfrace rims and they need rings to make them fit. Measure the diameter of the hub and see if there's any slack when you put the wheels on. If they're a neat fit then no rings required.
Its a good idea to get the engine nice and hot on the way to the test. Take it for a blast and rev it hard through the gears a few times to clear the carbon out of it. And use decent fuel like V power or Tesco Optimum.
Had mine Terraclean treated recently before the test. CO was zero and HC was 6. Last year I also struggled with emissions but it did pass.
Has Scorpion cat back exhaust on it and performance air filter element in 172 air box.
They might be getting glazed on the braking surface of the pad and that could be the cause of the noise? Are they still noisy if the car is driven hard and the brakes get hot? When I fitted DS2500 pads on mine the anti squeal shims had to be removed in order for the pads to fit as they are...
I'm thinking about uprating my suspension. Bilstein set up one of the best. Subaru use them on the Legacy GTB as standard. Hence the B in GTB, for Bilstein. Mate of mine has had several GTB's and they are awesome cars!
I've got K Tec mountings on mine a nod Powerflex dogbone bush and the car is superb under hard acceleration on the track and road. No transfer of vibration into the car either. Well worth the money. Had them on my car about 4 years now.
Mine has 140,000 on it now and it's still sweet. As long as its had decent oil and regular servicing then the engine should easily do really high mileage. Modern engines are built much better and synthetic oils have helped towards them lasting much longer.
I've just had a fault with my 172 refusing to start. The red light on the dash was flashing fast every time the ignition was switched on. I called the AA out and they managed to get it running so I took it straight to Birchdown. As soon as I turned the engine off the fault came back again. They...
I was there on Thursday. I get a ticket from BRSCC each year now so all I have to pay for is parking and food etc.
it was good but not as many exhibitors this year. Got round most of it by 5.00 and left before the end.
My ph1 172 has developed this fault today. Came out to it and unlocked ok using the remote key fob. Tried to start the engine and it ran for a few seconds then stalled. Tried to restart it and the red warning light in the centre of the instrument panel started flashing fast while turning the...
I agree with that. But get whatever car you plan to use in a reliable state and able to stand hard braking and has decent tyres fitted. Spend some money having tuition and view a few videos of which ever circuit you plan to use before your first time there. I went to Bedford last December for...
