Theres a nice ph1 172 for sale at Holt garage near wrexham, W reg, £3995, also a very tasty blue Mk2 172 at Broughton car centre near chester for £3995 on an 02 plate. The Mk2 is on autotrader as well.
I stayed at the travel lodge just up the road from there in august for a few nights. There were some awesome cars and bikes there every night when we walked past on way back from tube station.
We've checked the belts and they are new. They are Gates brand belt so good quality. The rubber is soft and pliable still and has the print on the outside clearly visible. The car is a good one despite the lack of history.
try NGK platinum plugs, they are superb. i've got a set in mine. also chesk the plug leads are totally dry inside the coils.Theres a tendency for condensation to get trapped inside them. A tweak to avoid the damp being trapped is to make small V grooves in the sealing rings on the outside of...

If anyone wants a really top notch rolling road or dyno for their cars then contact Steve Greenald or Steve Pitcher at Track n Road at Rainham. They are not far from the Dartford crossing. They do mapping of bespoke ecu's but OE ones at present. The rolling road takes up to 800bhp and 200 mph...
They seem to get really noisy but then dont get any worse if that makes sense. I have had the same problem with my 172. The rear left bearing was making a right racket for weeks. I had it replaced last friday as warranty claim as the bearing was new in september. I dont think doing 2 track days...
does anyone remember this car from anywhere? I bought it in september with no history or record of previous owners. Its had four previous owners according to the V5 but doesnt name anyone apart from the trader I got it from. Its had recent money spent on it but no bills. Any info would be useful...
The ph1 172 is awesome! I've only had mine since september and am made up with it.i've fnally got some decnt tyres on it and it handles really well. I took it out for a blast round the lanes late last night and it just gives me a huge grin every time I drive it. Clarksons analogy to it being...
Funny that. I've had to have a new wheel bearing fitted on rear left last week. Its the second one since september on the same hub. It was making a helluva droning noise for weeks. I thought it was the Michelin Pilot tyres but replaced them and noise was still there so it had to be bearings. At...
Reckon standard zorst is loud enough! Thats whats on mine and it gets fairly raucous if its given full throttle. I've had modded systems on my cinq abarth and tbh they can be obtrusive. The janspeed is ok though. I've used them on several cars and they are relatively unobtrusive.
Mine sits on the drive most of the time as its purely for pleasure. My missus wants me to get rid and just keep her astra. Errr, no! I don't think so! I drive my taxi every day so dont need the car to go to work. But it does get used to go marshalling and other places occasionally. It gives me a...
It shouldn't pull to the left under acceleration! I'd get the tracking and geometry checked if I was you! Mine is straight as a die under hard acceleration.
My boot is full of my marshalling kit.Plus helmet for track days.Every time I bring it into the house, my missus puts it all back in the boot or leaves to get damp in the garage. grrr!!
No wonder you're only getting low mpg! The car isnt getting up to temperature on short runs all the time. This time of year the car will use a lot more fuel until its fully warm. Its a good idea to add some distance to your journey to get the car warmed up. At least once a week take it for a...
Thats just like mine! Paid same sort of money for it. Belts all new but had no history with it. Have put new tyres on last couple of weeks, Toyo T1-R's. also replaced mid section of exhaust, two rear hubs and discs, also had to replace one of the rear bearings as it was faulty. Made up with the...
Try Track n Road at Rainham. Owned by a great friend of mine Steve Greenald in partnership with Steve Pitcher. 01708869189 , email greenald@aol.com, they have rolling road 200mph and 800 bhp and dyno cell with schenk dyno. Steve G is one of the best mappers in the country. They don't do remaps...
Right. Some links for anyone to get into marshalling. www.bmmc.co.uk , British Motorsport Marshals Club, www.volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk . Either of these will take you to information about marshalling for most types of motorsport. The other option is join a motor club. I mentioned these in my...
Brake upgrade defo first on the list. EBC Greenstuff pads for fast road use. Demon Tweeks do them fairly cheap. A track day is a real blast. I've done a few with the marshals club and had a huge amount of fun. Its a great way to find out how your car performs at the limit.
I'm looking forward to...
Is anyone involved in motorsport marshalling at all? I've been a member of British Motorsport Marshals Club for 5 years. I go to various rallies around the country and occasional race meetings at Oulton Park.
Its a great way to get close to the action and also help with running of an event. All...
having lowered suspension is fine if all you plan to do is drive on smooth tarmac, but with the amount of speed humps etc around its not exactly practical. I had a Cinquecento abarth that had been lowered and it was a nightmare on back roads or anything bumpy. it kept bottoming out. Fine on fast...
