There are many cloud based storage solutions available now. If everyone has an internet connection then you could look at that to save hardware costs and the need to make the server available to remote users. Seems a little overkill to go the SBS route if you are only looking to share data.
Google TV is simply their way of getting into the connected TV market. Apple were there so Google had to follow (that seems to be how they currently operate). Laying fibre is an interesting one and I am not sure what their business strategy is around this but its still only a transport medium...
