Hi Andy,
Im going to get my car chipped this week, and I contacted Perfect Power about the wiring diagrams, they, said they dont have one for the 172, so they have suggested using the diagram from the 2.0 Scenic which has the F4R 740 engine.
What diagram did you use for the chip you did on...
Hi all,
A while ago I decatted my mk1 172 and noticed that the car was noticably better at highway speeds, and just seemed to pick up better from lower in the rev range.
I also have been doing better drag times (-0.2s) with higher terminal speeds (+4km/h), and have really improved my lap...
Once upon a time I was browsing the web looking for 172 tuning parts and I came across a site in OZ which had some very nice looking 172 mk1 headlights which...I dont know how to describe them, but were basically mk1 versions of the mk2 lights, with the black inserts instead of full silver...
Last night I was getting onto the highway and as I came round a tight bend in 2nd I booted it up the onramp...at this point the STOP and handbrake lights started flashing like there was a loose connection, so I lifted off immediately and they went off...Tried boothing it again and they didnt...
Im currently driving a mk1 172 which is just awesome (pity about Renault though)
but I might be ableto get hold of a mint Polo 2.0 16v turbo for half the price of the Clio.
The Polo is black, in mint condition, at 0.5bar puts out 227hp and at 1.1bar puts out 335hp (both figures @ wheels)...
1.) Im going to be replacing the std mk1 172 platinum spark plugs with some non precious metal ones...any suggestions, as I dont want to downgrade spark performance (reason Im changing the plugs is to be able to run 102 leaded racing fuel. car is already de-catted)
2.) Foam or paper...
Hi guys, Ive got the oportunity to buy a Merc SLK supercharger for 85 quid and Im wondering if it would fit in the Clio and what else Id need to get the car supercharged reliably
Ive just read the Multispokes post and thought Id share a little tip with you poor sods (like me) who have difficult wheels to clean.
Brasso is the answer.
Pour some into a small bowl and paint it onto your wheels, leave it for a little bit and then wash with some warm water.
Also...if...
Im very happy with the work done...the 3 side panels are back to perfect condition and the work on the bumper which was scuffed and gouged looks as good as new.
Ill definately use AutoMagic in Randburg again
Ive just gotten home from a very good day.
Basically as some of you know Ive joined the VW Club of SA (http://www.vwclub.co.zawww.vwclub.co.za) because there arent any local renault clubs.
Anyway, today was the VW Club Annual Jamboree which consists of a Gymkhana to determine the best driver...
Just read this on the Sheffield Uni site

Electromechanical valve actuation is a key technology for improving the efficiency and reducing the fuel consumption of ICE vehicles, and thereby achieving a...
Looks like Ill be getting one of these very soon for about 50 pounds (bargain) from a mate as hes just bought a new car and doesnt want to invalidate the warrenty
Has anyone else fitted on to their cars yet? I know there was someone from Iceland who was going to fit it but I never heard back...
Ive had a pretty busy weekend, which started on Friday night with a http://www.vwclub.co.zahttp://www.vwclub.co.za party, moved into Saturday and a RR day with the same club, and finishing off with a Trax day on sunday.
Im going to skip over the party on friday except to say it was filled with...
As some of you know (or maybe not) the Clio engine has the most basic form of Valve Timing.
Basically the engine runs one cam profile for smooth idling and at 1,500rpm the profile switches to the other profile.
Ive been thinking, would it not be possible to change the low rpm cam profile to...
Took my car in yesterday for its 45,000km service as well as to get the speedo unit replaced (last time they just reconnected it to the gearbox)
Dropped my car off at 8am, stated the extras I wanted sorted out on the car, and got a lift home by one of the salesmen.
I got a phonecall at 12 to...
I was at a friends place last night, and left at about 10pm in the rain.
The complex where they live is pretty new so the access road is still untarred and there are no lights at the main entrance, which normally isnt a problem.
I pull up at the exit gate and wait for security to buzz me...
Ran at Gerotek.
1st run 196.200km/h (backing off before the banked corner)
2nd run 196.720km/h (flat out all the way)
I think Im not getting any higher because of the 16" 205/45 wheels.
Strange thing is my revs were holding 5,500rpm...one would think that once the 172 is in the power...
Last night on the way home from work I was stopped on an incline behind another car.
The car pulled off and I tried to as well but I was giving more and more gas, letting the clutch out more and more and by the end of it I was sitting at 5000rpm with the clutch completely engaged and Im hardly...
How good is the standard 172 exhaust manifold?
Im fitting a new decat sometime soon and am wondering whether it would be worth it to get branches made up too?

Im currently deciding between this and the Dastek Unichip
Im leaning towards the SMT-6 because I dont have to take it to a Dastek tuner to make adjustments, its slightly cheaper than the Dastek chip...
Where is it? How do I spot it? What does it look like?
My speedo stopped working again today and I dont want to have to leave the car at Renault again.
Well, the other night my speedo stopped working for no reason (thats what I told Renault), Actually I downshifted to 3rd when I was trying to change up to 5th on the motorway.
Dropped the car off this morning at 9am, told them the problem, and the first thing the receptionist asks me is "Is...
Just arrived home from my first ever trax day and I had an absolute blast, and met some really awesome guys.
Took the Clio out onto the track and WOW , the car handles like a dream. Its almost like it was designed to be driven around the track.
By the end of the days I was staying with a...
