After some friendly racing against some very strong machines, it seems that my 172 is very strong in 1st and 2nd (which implies that I have a nice strong motor), but once I get to 3rd I just dont seem to have the same sort of grunt and slowly start losing ground.
what could I do to the engine...
My speedo isnt working.
if I do the diagnostic thing (hold down trip computer and turn on ignition) the speedo moves around just fine. but when driving it doesnt budge.
What could have happened?
Can I fix it myself or do I have to take it to Renault for them to sort out

It starts out as a Clio 172 driverss impression of his test drive of a ST170 and turns into a Renault (Clio 172)...
Since I got my Pioneer DEH P740MP HU Ive had this little nagging feeling in the back of my head because all of you guys who have similar have the DEH P7400MP HU, and Ive been trying and trying to discover the difference, at one point I even thought I might have some Pirate Copy thing.
Anyway...
Im busy looking at the user manual for my mk1 172 and it has vehicle codes for all the various Clios
Now for the 172 the code is CB0M, but there is also CB1C. I know CB0M is the VIN code for 172, but what is this CB1C?
I think Tom was onto something with his improving the 172 post.
Id like to follow on from that a little.
As far as tuning a 172 goes there are a few area for improvement
1. Remove Unwanted Weight
2. Better & Lighter Wheels And Tyres
3. Uprated Suspension
4. Modify Suspension Geometry...
Anyone else got a rattling spare wheel?
Since I got the 172 there has been a very loud rattle from the rear of the car which I put down to rear headrests and backboard.
Last night I took out the spare and tools and all of a sudden there is no rattle in the rear of the car.

Im currently running the std Renault crap speakers off a Pioneer DEH-P7400MP HU and Im now thinking of replacing the speakers in the car.

A while ago I posted that in 3rd I was reaching 150kph (93mph) @ 7000 rpm which seemed a tad high. I tested this a few times on the same night to make sure.

As far as Im aware one of the biggest restrictions in the 172 engine is the Inlet manifold so I would like to reduce that restriction as much as possible without getting too expensive (and definately not throttle bodies at the moment).
