Welcome aboard the loony bus Jim-Bob.
The site Id highly recommend visiting would be http://www.cliosport.net/club.asphttp://www.cliosport.net/club.asp
Just fill in the details, send along 5 quid, maybe a little more for some stickers and a keyring, and youll not only have access to...
Id have to disagree about the comments that no clio could be used as a fashion statement.
I think the mk1 172 is one of the sexiest looking hatches on the market, especially the interior.
the exterior is that not overstated slightly brutish look, although Id agree that most women wouldnt...
Ok over here the service intervals were every 20,000km or 2 years for cars sold before the end of June 2001 and every 15,000 or 1 year for cars sold after June 2001.
I believe in the UK that mk1 172s are serviced every 20,000km or 2 years and for mk2 172s its every 15000km or 1 year
Im on my second Clio (1.4 16V, 172) and Ive only had the 172 for 2 months now and I still love it to bits although its starting to feel slow now but I guess Im still getting used to it but I love flooring it first and feeling that slight surge in power you get starting from 4000 then then the...
I dont like the idea of the CD tray...just think about it...
youre on a bumpy road and the gf wants to change a cd but as she is about to put the disc in you hit a rather nasty bump and she heavily knocks the tray and breaks it...
Does anyone with a mk1 have rattling rear seats?
Have you gotten it fixed? I was thinking of using that padded tape stuff to build up a soft layer to stop the rattles.
How do I tell if Ive got an aluminium bonnet or a steel one?
Also is the mk2 weight with a full tank or not?
I came up against a mk2 the other weekend and I was definately pulling ahead of him, not by much but I was...maybe this due to him being heavier than me which is very likely, or maybe...
My last car was a Clio and I knew I wanted a 172 from the first day I saw a Sunflower Yellow one on the dealer floor in 2000.
For the money there were many other cars I could have considered from Golf 4 GTi 1.8T, to 156 2.5 to BMW E46 318 to an E36 M3 if I felt so inclined but I like small...
ok from what you said the guy does sound like a bit of a cowboy.
As for your other questions, I asked a local tuner about getting stage one for my car and he said chip, zorst, filter and fpr. Would cost me about 440 for the lot...but then again I live in Africa where this stuff is cheap...
it didn,t ever happen on my 1.4 16v so i seriously doubt it would ever happen on your 1.2
I think you need a pretty powerful fwd to introduce power off oversteer
Yep it would be the 150bhp version but remember, they were at high altitude where the 172 can only manage an 8.4 to 60.
172bhp - 20% due to altitude = 138bhp
150bhp - 5% due to altitude = 143bhp
So basically the 172 needs 34bhp more from somewhere to as competative as it is at sea level...
Ive had that happen to me before.
Was doing 160km/h down the highway following a BMW 320i and the next thing I see is a police mk2 Golf GTi scream past at about 180.
Congrats on the new car Geoff.
When I first read the topic I feared for the worst, but its good to know that no 172s were injured during the making of this post;)
Ok guys, there is someone on one of the local SA forums posting that his A3 1.8T is roasting a mk1 172 through the gears.
He did admit that the 172 was quicker off the line (1st and 2nd) but through the gears and in overtaking in 3rd, 4th, he was claiming the A3 was just killing the 172.
Now...
I didnt test drive anything, just went out and bought it.
I did have a 1.4 16V before this so I knew I liked the car. Before that however I test drove a ford ikon (sedan version of a fiesta) and hated it
Thanks guys.
Ive just spoken to the owner of the gate and he said he has repaired the gate a few times before, but he said normally people end up rolling down in to the ditch.
Ill definately try get some track days sorted through one of the local motoring clubs.
unfortunately keeping it planted would have meant I would have plowed into the kerb and probably a wall.
Oh well, at least the gate took more damage than the car
