Day I got my first Clio, June '08, was 17 and had been learning for about 6 wks.
Took it for a spin with my Mum in the passenger seat, rockin those L plates. Started off on a hill and pulled straight away no bother, got a feel for it quite quickly.

As for mods I'd stick with Ford OEM stuff like armrest, Sony stereo and maybe a set of Eibach Proline springs!

The problems still happen on this model too! Used to occur randomly on mine. I know folk who've had the throttle body and pedal changed and it's made no difference. I think it's a wiring issue.
They are not getting more common. I'm not sure where that point has come from.
They are perhaps more accessible to chavs due to the cheap values - My car is a notorious example for it lol
