Having worked in a support environment I know that the person you're calling for support may in fact know less than you and be referring to info sheets or a computerised support system. It's shocking really.
Building pc's is a piece of piss. For a novice it just looks scary.
You shouldn't need antivirus software unless you're sharing files with unprotected windows machines. As for firewall I believe UFW is installed by default now. UFW = uncomplicated firewall, which is a front end for iptables.
Did a quick google on Photoshop CS3 and whether it works seems hit and miss, CS2 seems to be up and working so if CS3 isn't already then I'm sure it soon will be.
I haven't used Ubuntu for a while so I burnt off a 9.04 CD earlier. The live session flies along which is a nice surprise, I've...
I dunno about WINE but Crossover Office claims to be able to install and run MS Office 2007, it's not free though.

I assume you don't want to try or can't use an alternative like OpenOffice?
I had some problems with software on the beta namely games so went back to Vista. Don't know if those problems would exist with the RC or not. If you want a play with something new then go for it, as long as you have Vista on a DVD or something you can always reinstall.

Wasn't expecting it to be so heavy!

LAN maps are exactly what I'm after mate. I play COD4 LAN with my step kids. It's one of the few things that keeps them quiet but we've played the standard maps to death now.
Had it for a while now. It's one of those cases you either love or hate. http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NzA0
Depends on what you call noisy really. The 250mm fan has 3 speed settings but even on the fastest it's not bad. The CPU fan is virtually silent when it's spinning so the...
Well we've seen Adam's water cooled beast and there always seems to be a post about building a pc on the go, so what have you got right now and what does it get used for? Any immediate upgrade or pimping plans? This only applies to home pc's, not what you might be running at work unless you work...
Looks like a cracking set up. I tend to upgrade bits rather than complete builds and go for best bang for buck. Currently waiting on a Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition which should keep me going for another few years, should be arriving on tuesday and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can get...
