A friend of mine had a clio cup racer, we took it down to silverstone for a track day - was awesome! We were keeping up with gt3 911s! (apart from the straight) For some more info see www.playtoymotorsport.com/race.html
After driving both, id rather have the 197, in my opinion the latest gen mini lacks the feel of the old one ie the steering feels light and false, plus there is no supercharger whine anymore :( the 197 is a riot! and I like the fact it needs to be revved - makes it more satisfying!
I love these cars! I drove my friends exige s which was fitted with a lotus stage 2 exhaust, sounded fantastic! For me these are motoring perfection! :)
Went up to Leyburn for a drive today to give the auto test car (metro gti ) a run out and give the clio a good run as its been sat over xmas. There were some great roads and the clio impressed :)
Just had the renault sport front splitter and tail pipes fitted - excuse the dirt! does anyone know what a milltek cat back sounds like on a 197? thinking of putting one on it soon!
I have a 2002/52 plate, with 25 k miles on - had cambelt done, aux belt, new discs and pads, new tyres (t1r proxes) all round and new wheels team dynamics pro race 1.2 wheels. Also had a new battery last week would sell it for £5750
:)
I think for the money you cant go wrong! Ive found diff cars ive had I enjoy in different ways - the elise was awesome on smooth back roads, the cooper s's were good on most roads and felt solid (on down side felt a bit heavy) and the clio is a lot of fun but maybe feels a little on the cheap...
Ive had mine 3 months and in 4000 miles ive spent...
£170 discs and pads (front)
£70 Bosch high capacity battery
£500 wheels and tires
£200 Eibach pro kit springs
£130 Gaz replacement rear struts (originals were knackered)
Luckily mine has already had cam belt and auxilary belt done before i...
They are fantastic pics! wish mine were as good :( here are a couple I took of friends clio cup racer this year....
And a sneaky pic I got of a 172 cup :)
ive had 2 drives in 197 now, first time was when they first came out when i had my elise, I was impressed then with the quality and the brakes, plus the way its really nice to heel toe :D Recently my father bought a 197 f1 which i had a go in on the weekend, really do enjoy it! just a shame i...
I had a drive in it yesterday, very impressed compared with the 172 (still like my 172) but the 197 is streets ahead in terms of refinement, yet it still feels very involving to drive and it sounds great for a standard car, then there are the brakes... :( shame I dont have a spare 15k! haha
I made that site! lol, si sold the clio a few months back to buy a caterham... the clio was awesome round the track, but it was a little bit boring for hillclimbing... it just tended to stick with the soft slicks on so wasnt as involving as the rear wheel drive cars.
PS. if you are ever near leeds i would be interested in doing some pics of the car... check out some i took today...

That looks awesome! :) reminds me of a friends cooper s which was similarly low! id imagine it handles great on smooth roads, but cant imagine it would be great with our rough yorkshire backroads... dont think there would be any bumpers remaining on it after a good thrashing!
