OK, being one of the privileged few, I can make a direct comparison between the Cup and the 172. Now I was sceptical before my brother got his Cup, but now having seen and felt the difference, I stand corrected.
I will only comment on straight line speed here. We have lined up against each...
He wasnt playing with it. Believe me if your up at about 80/90 MPH against a high revving car with more horsepower, you will not go past! My bros old primera Sri(modded) wasnt easy to go past when racing at top end!
I would say depending on what kind of car you have, ie good or bad;), and depending what you are like at launching it, I would expect something between 6.6and 7.2!
172MAN
FFS why the feck do you keep going back to this feck old arguement, that you cant see Renault lying. Look at the latest brochure for the 172, what does it say 1035KG!!!!!!!!!!! They are fecking lying there, why do you find it so hard to believe!!
No it is the T-Sport version, 190 odd bhp. Why do you think a 172 would beat it top end? Weight wont help you up there, displacement and horsepower is what you need, V6 anyone!
I havent watched it yet, but I think it is the same vid, is it the one where the guy i the Corolla says something...
It depends what GTi it was, if it had a red i then it may have been the 150BHP petrol turbo, or the PD diesel!
If it just said GTi and had 15" alloys then it was the 2.0 8v lump of shecht!
Listen guys, I laugh when im over at the SSC board and I see VTR owners saying that they have reached 130+, I see no difference here.
You are NOT doing 145MPH, if thats what it says on your speedo. More like circa 130MPH!
....would 172 owners serioulsy buy another Renault, Im beginning to get really pissed of with mine, even to the point where Im doubting the purchase of the V6!
Just too many squeeks rattles and creaks and the backbox is fecked in under a year, the list goes on.
Question for you Dash, does...
No, its defo FWD.
The Cupra R is a very nice car, Ive managed to persuade the old man to get one for his next company car, should be here in 8 weeks or so! I wouldnt mind chucking in the 172 for one too.........no what am I saying its a V6!!!!!!!
Just found it 172Man!
1230KG for the 2.0, so the Turbo is not going to be much more than that say 1300KG, still better power to weight than the Cupra R, Focus RS and CTR!

There is a 2.0 Sport Hatch, so I would imagine its not going to far away from that! But Renault in their wisdom have seen it fit not to state the weight on their site!
They better colour code those bleeding side strips! Hope they dont do the same as the 172, i.e. only realise on the sidestrips were better colourcoded by the time they release the MK2!!!

Some interesting pics of some standard MK2s, a MK1, and a modded Cup and a modded MK2. See if you can spot the subtle mod on one of the MK2s.
Here are some of my pics of the day!
