Helix 4 Paddle Cerametallic Clutch Plate (supplied by ClioTurbo.co.uk) fitted with new LuK Pressure plate and Bearing
Seems to have cured the clutch slip, it's a little more bitey in slow moving traffic than before, but otherwise perfectly acceptable for road use.
Was a 5000mile old Valeo Clutch (fitted just before I got the car), I didn't expect it to last long at this power, but I thought it would do for a while.
However I removed it yesterday and found the pressure plate was 'coned' inwards so this explains why it slipped so easily.
Took the car to EFI Parts yesterday for a mapping session.
Had a couple of issues, firstly the Boost Control on the F/IC-8 wasn't working, and was simply applying max boost at full throttle.... a simple firmware upgrade resolved this.
Secondly the clutch (using new OE at the moment) was slipping...
I looked at those, but someone I know has some polymer resin that comes in various shore ratings for making mounts etc.
Hoping to cut the rubber out of my standard mount and fill it with that stuff to make a mount the same as the Prima Racing ones.
I used a DAS-6 with Chemical Guys Hex Pads and Menzerna polish on my old Golf R32 can't fault this combination.
I also have a selection of 3M Polishes that seem good too.
VW Paint tends to be hard as nails though, so if you have many imperfections you'll want something quiet aggressive to...
Got bored yesterday and decided to Makes some big holes in the Bumper & Crash Bar :D
Just for a bit of additional air through the Radiator for track days etc.
On the road the number plate will be staying in place and covering it up.
Also moved my Oil Cooler up slightly, so it's more in the...
Lol, not on Sir Frank Whittle Road then onto the A52 was it?
The fan over ride is really easy, the Fan relay (in the fuse/relay box under the bonnet... the Purple relay iirc) has a permanent Positive Feed to one side of the coil (which links out to the open switch of the relay to feed the fan...
Cars been back up and running for a few days now, and all is running well.
Did a few jobs while it was off the road...
-Made some 10.9 Grade M10 Turbo to Manifold Studs, fitted with Copper Nuts & Nord-Lock Washers.
-Replaced Cam Seals... along with cam pulley nut & bolt kit (to fix tiny oil...
I've made some 10.9 grade studs now, along with nord-locks and copper nuts.
The old studs were soft as anything, when using 2 nuts locked against each other to remove the stud rather than the stud coming out it just stretched the stud, but didn't snap it...
After doing some reading it seems...
Yeah nord-locks are the business.
However i'm kind of doubting the usefulness of them in this situation after doing some reading, people that run turbo'd MX5's have similar problems with the turbo coming loose from the manifold (also T2 flange), and it's nearly always the stud coming out the...
Yesterday I took the car to Mallory on a track day and things didn't really go to plan....
Nothing catastrophic, but every 2-3 laps the turbo to manifold joint started to blow, and I had to stop to tighten them.
Initially I thought it was the nuts vibrating loose, however on further...
There not great from what I can tell, they bolt directly to the floor & rear arch with no spreader plates or additional foot plates welded in, and the main hoop is pretty thin.
I would say however that it would almost certainly help in a roll over situation, but I'd be tempted to make some...
Ahh most likely you that I spotted on London Road then!
I'm unsure on having flocked dash, have you gone for Full Flocked Dash, or just the top section of the dash?
Haha, can't say I remember tbh.
I have spotted a couple of RS Clio's around recently, a Silver one on London Road with a cage, and a Black one... also with a cage.... I need a cage! :(
What colour is yours? and i'll look out for you in future!
I've got the Kingsnorth Engineering Top Mounts (listed on ebay) and they are top notch!
Can't fault them at all, very similar design to both the k-tec and pure mounts, but work out a little cheaper with free postage.
Pull the rubber boot back where the linkage/arm meet and make sure the nut is there/tight.
and check the nut on the adjuster clamp on the linkage.
It's possible the nylon bush on the small end of the shift arm could of worn to the point of the ball dropping out, but I'd be surprised.
A few of you may of seen that I've recently turbo'ed my 172 Cup.
It's an Engine Dynamics turbo kit, and is currently running an Engine Dynamics 230bhp map (with AEM F/IC-8 running the fueling, and OEM ECU doing everything else). I'm planning on taking it to EFI Parts eventually to have it...
I've got a pipe from the cam cover to one port, and another pipe to a breather filter that I've hidden behind the front bumper on the other port.
I did consider welding mine up, but where I've mounted it makes the drain plug hard to get at, so I was thinking of using a syringe and a bit of pipe...
Cheers mate.
It's this one...

It's a tight squeeze but fits nice... i had to trim the mounting bracket to get it in, and i had to shorten the hose tail poking out of the top and put a blank...
Well the AEM F/IC-8 ECU and Downpipe Arrived Yesterday at long last! :D
ECU Mounted where the passenger airbag used to be.
Finished Engine Shots
The Downpipe is also fitted, and the Engine has run for 30secs or so, however I haven't got around to fitting the cat/de-cat and rest of the...
I hope you reported this accident to the police...
Altho he initially stopped, the fact he left no details means he could be prosecuted for failing to stop and failing to report, and possibly driving without due care.
In most cases I wouldn't dream of involving the police, but clearly the...
I 'think' it'll be the FIC-6 as the boost is purely set by the actuator and theres no boost control as such.
However I'm not entirely sure as Engine Dynamics are supplying this.
As far as I can see they only use the FIC to offset the injector output depending on boost, everything else is...
The elbow that comes off the oil separate can be rotated and the hose runs across and round to the cambelt cover.
It's pretty far off the exhaust, and being silicone hose it can take a fair bit of temperature anyway.
