Std exhaust hangers are a common failure in a short space of time. I went for a Prima racing version which is very hard but I have had no problems with it and it still looks like new.
Once you start it will surprise you how much the bits and pieces you need add up to.
The intercooler and exhaust pipework will be all custom so this will come to around £500 on their own so £700 and you will be doing very well.
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
It was a big job in terms of the engine needing to come in and out to make sure it fitted before getting it welded up.
The pipe was cut at the turbo flange and welded about 10mm further in. It is so tight around there that every mm counts. The link pipe is custom made to...
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
Never been to sure of the hot hatch days with some of the driving I've seen in the past.
40 laps sounds like a good few sessions. Any problems with the car or other drivers?
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
Engine spec is meagne head, turbo, inlet and exhaust manifolds, rods, pistons and crank in a f4r block with Clio flywheel, clutch and box.
Milltek 70mm ceramic coated down pipe, megane 225 link pipe modified to fit and full custom intercooler pipework.
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
Cheers mate, your help is greatly appreciated!
I am still thinking about an inlet manifold design but with your skills I'm sure it will work well. The inlet you have mocked up will fit I think so it could be adapted from that.
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
What was going on today?
It can get quite addictive I agree. I hope to get it on track by June for a trackscotland day so fingers crossed.
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
I also shortened the down pipe by about 10mm and put strategic dent just in the right place with a mallet.
Due to how close the down pipe is to the master cylinder I get a ceramic coated one for good measure.
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
Cheers mate! Hope so after all the time I've spent on it. I am starting to see the end now so need to look at getting it mapped soon.
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
Its been a while but time for a little update.
Had a trial fitting or 8 of the engine to see what was going to fowl and on what. First thing was the down pipe on the brake master cylinder that i was expecting anyway but by just how much I wasn't. Decided on 3...
Sure its not just easier to use the na crank on a na engine and it's strong enough for the purpose. Dought it's stronger as for a car manufacturer to do that does not make sense.
I have the head, inlet and exhaust manifolds, turbo, pistons, crank and rods from a 225 and the block and box from a Clio.
Still to get the electrics done so not running yet but it all goes together.
There is space for the exhaust manifold and turbo but there isn't for the down pipe so some modification is needed for the brake master cylinder.
I've never fitted the megane inlet to the 1*2 head but from what I heard it doesn't fit straight on. You will need to lower the compression ration...
When I was running 16's with 195/50/r16 tyres on lowered coilovers it rubbed like mad on the arch liners. Dropped to 15's on 195/50/r15 tyres and all is good!
Tyres are cheaper as said too with better choice.
