R90 approved pads suitable for track use

I'm wondering if there are any pads which work acceptably from cold, survive on track on a standard power 172 and have R90 European approval? EBC Yellowstuff do, I've emailed them to confirm bluestuff and they arent approved. Ferodo aren't type approved Mintex 1144 seem to not be approved but...

Removeable front bumper - How have you done it?

Never had the bumper off mine yet to be honest, is it just in slide in rails or something? Cheers

I found this on another thread. @Chambers_RS, how did you fix the sides? Cheers

Removeable front bumper - How have you done it?

Hi, Those folk with quick release front bumpers for loading cars onto trailers etc, can you post some pics of what you've used to fasten it and where? Mine touches on the ramps as it is, and in due course I'd like to add a splitter so it will need to come off for loading. Thanks

    Downforce / areodynamics

Plywood is fairly common to be honest, the planks under F1 cars in the 90s were ply! It's a nice, stiff, thin and cheap material. Alucore is also used, as obviously is foam cored carbon.

    Question for metal minded...

Normally there are a couple of options/ My car has these sort of things, which the previous owner installed: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/seat-mounting-frames-vehicle-specific/car/renault/clio-98-05-172/omp-tailored-seat-subframe They are 3mm thick and obviously made with angle and...

    Question for metal minded...

Use steel, aluminium is prone to fatigue and cracking and needs to be thicker.

    The Apple Watch Thread

Eventually, we'll all have micro transplants so you can voice control the required features and talk and view the 'screen' without a tangible device, or hands. As a halfway house to that level of connectivity, this seems a bit lacklustre. When they are £100 and look like a proper watch with a...

    Downforce / areodynamics

The problem is that to make it work it needs to run so low you can't get it on and off a trailer, jack, anything, its just a PITA. Also without MAJOR surgery, you're pretty much out of suspension travel and your geometry is ruined, which is too much compromise IMHO.

    Downforce / areodynamics

Diffuser is pointless on a small FWD hatch unless it has a full flat floor and is run extremely low. Even if those things are true, the 197 item is almost certainly of no benefit whatsoever except cosmetics. I'm not sure how true the light back end theory is, they're still fairly understeery in...

DIY brake ducts/ cold air feed

Its a great sealant, but has almost no mechanical properties at all and over time is likely to peel. Possibly a polyeurathane adhesive such as sikeflex or tiger seal might work. I'd make sure the pipes are supported behind the fog light plates so the sealant isn't taking the load and see how it...

DIY brake ducts/ cold air feed

I cant see the silicone sealant lasting in that application to be honest mate. Hope I'm wrong.

So you think racing is too expensive, think again.

Well not really, sailing went the same way and you wind up with many classes all effectively offering the same thing, and as a result, smaller grids.

Axle spacers and hub centric spacers, reason for each

Well add, correct, whatever you want to call it, many cars wont be even from side to side, and on track, a little more may be beneficial, so its common to fit shims. If fitting camber shims, its easy to fint spacers at the same time, negating the need for hubcentric wheel spacers and longer...

Axle spacers and hub centric spacers, reason for each

And since a lot of people remove the stub axles to sort the camber they're an easy solution

So you think racing is too expensive, think again.

No regs on their site yet, but it looks like you take a standard, high mileage 206 and fit £1500 quids worth of stuff which one assumes just about buys a cage, bucket seat, harness, extinguisher etc. Youre then left with a high mileage car on standard bushes, dampers, shocks......... At least...

The confusing world of xenon/projector retrofits

I've done a set with their "direct fit" morimoto mini 3.0 and they're too big for the majority of housings. I was lucky that I *just* had room, but for the majority of headlights I'd go the odl way and cut the bowl to mount them. Well worth the effort for the extra light output!

    Raspberry Pi

    What weight is your clio

Less weight improves almost everything and it's free to start with. Once you get into diminishing returns and start having to spend its no longer really worthwhile. For me, my car has no interior, relocated smaller battery and buckets/harnesses/cage, but still has glass windows, full dash and...

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

To be honest, a lot fo that comes down to the car, your loyalty and price, but I mean things like camber curves, friction coefficient against normal force, or slip angle. For instance, hankook ventus S1 evos grip well, but the steering feels dead due to the huge slip angles required to...

    XBMC Help?

If you're really noobish, then buy the pi and put raspbmc on it and then use it. Once you get used to it (and if you like it) , you can perhaps build something faster. You can run XBMC on anything, but obviously performance, compactness and low noise all have a cost and the pi works well for the...

    Cage padding for road use?

Yeah I just worry that the FIA stuff will mess your head up without the helmet. Its designed for pretty high speed crashes with a helmet on, which without a helmet will kill you regardless, I just worry that in a lower speed crash it may do more harm than good.

    XBMC Help?

I run XBMC on a home media server and its brilliant. I set my folks up with a raspberry Pi, which does the same thing a little slower, but was about a sixth of the price. I'd definitely recommend it as software, but the platform is up to your needs and budget

    Cage padding for road use?

What do people use in their track cars and for road use? For a dedicated race or track car I'd use the FIA spec stuff, but I worry it might do more harm than good on the road? Cheers!
