I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

Thanks Tom, hope it didn't seem like I was rushing you :) I'm really pleased you're able to help as I've read loads of good things about you on here. I just hope I can afford all the work! EDIT: Just got your PM as well, you're a star, thanks mate.

If I get the car back on the road I will be extremely happy. Fingers crossed JMS can sort me out.

Any idea when you might be able to get back to me Tom? I'm in the office all day tomorrow so will be available on my mobile any time. I'm really keen to talk to you about how you can help me out :) Cheers

    Clear Repeaters and Silvervisions In

Looking good. Silver indicator bulbs make so much difference for such little money. I've got them at the back of mine as well (in my avatar in fact) and I quite like them there. Any reason you didn't?

    Fog Lights

I do hope you're only planning to use them when it's actually foggy ;)

You read my mind, if money permits I was thinking of getting the RS192 done at the same time. Not sure I'll be able to afford it after all this though :(

Cheers Ollie :) I like that JMS say they can handle everything. I just want the car back on the road with as little faffing around as possible. Would be great if they could source an engine as well :) I'll wait to hear from Tom.

They seem to get very good comments on these forums so I look forward to hearing from them. I don't suppose they could arrange for the car to be picked up as well do you? I would love for them to just give me a price to get it back on the road, and then for them to sort everything out from...

Thanks for the tip Jonny, I didn't realise they were so close. I have just emailed them.

Sorry I don't think I was very clear. They have looked after loads of 1*2s, and the mechanic used to own a 172 in fact. It's just that he hasn't done an engine change on a 182 before, but has on many other Renaults.

My bad, they said that they go by book times for jobs they haven't done before. This is the service station - http://www.bss-renault.co.uk/ They have looked after my family's cars for many years.

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

The people I am dealing with are Renault specialists, rather than Renault themselves. To be fair on them, they are giving me a worst case scenario of 14 hours, as they've not done a 182 engine before. I think that is fair enough. Someone at work has given me details of a garage in Maidstone...

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

I saw the garage this morning. A couple of spark plugs had been crushed and sharded at the bottom. They are 90% sure one of the valves has come loose and fallen into the pistons, and are fairly certain the engine is screwed. They are saying they have to quote 14 hours to replace it as they have...

Heatshield rattle, not sure how to fix it

How much would you charge (inc. travel costs) to fit an engine if I sourced it and would this include sorting out new cam/aux belt kit etc? Would you be able to fit at my home? I live here -...

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

So I'm now thinking that I could probably get a new engine for £400-500 and get it fitted for about £300-400. I also need to factor in the cost of towing it from the garage it's at now to wherever the work will be done. I'm going to be busy ringing around tomorrow. What is involved with...

Shame you're not a bit closer really. So £800 is taking the piss a bit then?

Do you work for/own a garage?
  21. ScarySquirrel

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

Thanks for the advice all. I plan to have the car for a good 3-4 years, and I love the thing so I want to keep it if possible. The garage quoted me £800 roughly for 14 hours labour to fit the engine. I'm going to see them tomorrow to find out exactly what this covers. I then need to source an...

Can anyone in the South East (T.Wells, Eastbourne, etc.) fit a 182 engine?

Thanks for the advice all, especially Revels, big help. The car was bought privately. The mechanic who looked at it today said that he can see metal shards inside the engine. He thinks a valve has come loosed and the pistons have shredded it to pieces, taking the engine with it, or something...

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

I'll contact Fred to see how much he will charge. Is £850 for a 182 engine on 49,000 miles with service history to back up the mileage good? It seems quite high so I might try and knock him down on price.

Can anyone in the South East (T.Wells, Eastbourne, etc.) fit a 182 engine?

That's a very good point Revels, about selling it further down the line. Is it ok to fit a new engine though? Does that not look bad in itself? I just hate the idea that the car is a mix of two cars, if that makes sense?
  25. ScarySquirrel

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

I don't know of any engine people around here. The garage I took it to are a Renault specialist so I do trust their information. I've started a thread asking if someone could help me fit a new engine. But I'm concerned about actually finding a decent one, and also about the whole idea of...

Can anyone in the South East (T.Wells, Eastbourne, etc.) fit a 182 engine?

Hi all, following on from this thread - http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=509870&page=2 I need a new engine for my 182, which I have owned for a grand total of 5 weeks. If I was to source a new engine, are there any individuals out there who would be able to fit it for me...

    ***How much is it worth?***

Re: ***How much is my car worth?*** How much for a non-runner: 04 plate, Arctic Blue RS 182, both cup packs 53k Miles - Needs new engine FSH Anthracite 182 Cup Wheels with 4 x new PE2's Tax and MOT until July this year. I would class the car as good condition in and out, with the usual stone...

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

It's worse. The engine is dead. Apparently there are shards of metal inside it, the mechanic thinks a valve has fallen into the pistons and has completely screwed the engine. I'm not sure if that makes sense as I don't really know much when it comes to this kind of stuff. My options: - Pay...

I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

It was done by the previous owner in March last year, at 37k miles (on 52k now), and I have the receipts for it as well. As you say though, you never know to what standard it has been done! I'm guessing this would be cheaper. If things are still turning but the car isn't starting would this...

:( it's being towed to the garage now. RAC man looked where you put the oil and things are still turning as they should be. He has no idea what it is. 4 weeks of ownership and the PAS pump failed, needed 4 new tyres and now this.
