Yeah, they are expensive from renault, I can give you the part numbers or you can try some scrap yards or anyone breaking a 172/182. Youll mostly need the drivers side as the front part of the wheel arch also protects the aux belt and roller from the elements.
The guage sender is on the thermostat housing, near the bleed screw. It tells the guage and the ecu the coolant temp and also activates the coolant temp warning light. IIRC they are only about £20 from renault, if your gonna change it youll need to stick some new type d coolant in there too..I...
This appears to be normal in all the 172s ive driven. Ive noticed some 0-60 vids on youtube of clios the temp guage bobs down a bit when acelerating hard. The thermostat stays permantly open once the coolant has reached about 80degrees. If your acelerating hard at the same time your water...
If it runs ok and starts ok i wouldnt worry about it. When was the coolant last changed?? It could be a faulty temp sensor on the thermostat housing. Check to see if the fan is not constantly running (note fan will come on at low speed with air con).
Some info here.

The all have positives and negatives 172mk1, 172mk2 172cup, 182, 182cup and 182 Trophy.
The ones that stand out are the 172mk1, has the preface lift front and rear, is the most responsive to drive...
They are not interchangeable. The shafts a the clio sports are stronger and balanced for higher speeds. Theres even minor differences between 182 and 172 driveshafts.
On the 1.2 8v mk2ph1 theres not a lot that can go wrong. The anti roll bar bushes are weak and can break. The rear shoes in the rear drums have a habit of coming loose and jamming the rear brakes. The head gaskets tend to go around 120K if abused. Theres not much worth mentioning to be honest...
Take the rear drum to a local garage and get them to press the old bit out and press the new one in. The handbrake wont get in the way at all. The abs rotor is on the inside of the drum but wont get in the way at all.
Could be a stretched cable. There is an adjusting nut underneath the car, you will have to undo one side of the exhaust heat shield near the cat/centre section to get to it. Try tightening it with a long socket and see if that helps.
If you do the dashboard trick with the trip computer button it will do a self test on all the dials. If the speedo doesnt move around to random places its definatly the sensor and not the dials.
Check the rack mounts, you might be able to resolve it by carefully tightening the bolts that hold the rack to the subframe. You can just about get to all 4 if you look where the cat is at the back of the frame.
I wouldnt have thought so, the anti roll bar bushes are on the subframe and and the ends/bottom of the wishbones. Shouldnt really cause any steering issues. What do you mean by loose feeling??
£350 is not too bad. The parts alone work themselves out to be just over £300. Its not hard to fit yourself, it all bolts on like a mechano kit, no welding involved.
I fitted mine myself as I wanted to modify it first to make it last longer.
A ph2 decat will be fine. It will make it all fit nicely. You just need to fill the 2nd lambda sensor hole on the decat if your ph1 only has 1 sensor (some have 2 anyway).
Unfortunatly not, the 172mk1 has a shorter cat so the centre section is longer. If your fitting an exhaust from a 172mk2 youll need a matching cat too.
They wont fit a 172, as the 172 as wider arches and track the front wheel arch has a wider bit on it. Which side do you need, they are quite pricey from Renault.
