This update is for java, the virus at one point was masquerading as a flash player, this is not what this is updating, this is a java update as java was being exploited on sites. It does show that maybe you do have to think about using antivirus software on a mac these days maybe.

Apparently oracle brought out a fix for windows users several months ago but not for mac users :(

Not even that counts for much these days, as disks get bigger, and no faster, rebuild times take longer and longer, and so when a drive is going to fail, so even pre-failure warning, the disk is likely to fail before it's even had a chance to copy the data off. Even very big sans can takes days...

Flol @ a ups for a home hard drive, serious g33k alert there. Cost of running it plus replacing the batteries (well the unit for those small ones) every 2 years.

Indeed it does, but when you're dealing with laptop 128gb ssd etc you don't notice as much, but when you start using 2-4tb drives the loss is very noticeable etc. you shouldn't really lose any more over the raid, on a netapp San you lose another 10% to the software it runs, so it does depend on...

All good advice from Chris, the only thing I would add is to not expect 6tb usable data space.... The 2tb drives I use in a netapp format to about 1.6tb... Its less noticeable with smaller drives but when you get big ones it's significant!

I never even use live view, I am a viewfinder man, using a screen is what compact cameras are for IMO. Although saying that, you have to use the screen for video, although after my experience it's more hassle than its worth.

sure is, and video, meh, its ok if you have a lens with IS, pointless without unless yoga re doing tripod work. You can get a much better video camera for a decent price, unless you are going to use some serious glass (which lets face it, yoga rent really when looking at a 550d as an option)...
