Use a slightly smaller drill bit and it won't damage the threads.

Only need to do it twice. So, ignition on. Turn lights all the way on then off and all the way on and off again. You'll hear a beep when it's done. Disconnecting the battery will have reset them back to auto, do the above and you'll be sorted.
