Yeah, fitted kevlar pads all round a few weeks back. On the last corner I forgot to put copper grease on the back of the pads and couldnt be arsed to take the wheel off again as it was getting dark.
Squeals like a little piggy under hard braking on that wheel now. Doh!
I would agree with scotty that a modded cars says "thrashed" even though its probably been treated better than your average car.
Just had a peek at Clio16vblacks and it looks well sweet but on a MK2 172 I wouldnt debadge as the "renaultsport" badge is one of the few ways to tell it from the...
Isnt the whole idea that the engine should have mineral oil in [until first service] so that it can be run in correctly? Modern fully synth oil causes virtually zero engine wear so it wont run in as it should?
Perhaps its all bollox and they want you to take a month to run it in before you...
This might be why people get out of my way on the motorway without me tailgating/driving like a knob.
I cant see that happening if I get a new clio, it could be a 1.2 following them (not that theres anything wrong with 1.2s)
I can tell a MK1 172 behind me but the MK2? I have to adjust my...
Konichi-wa willy-babe!
Sorry to hear about the motor. I got broken into so many times I no longer have a stereo in my car. Just as well the engine sounds so groovy.

Cheeky buggers. Whenever I buy an oil filter from Bovingdon Renault (not a main dealer) they give me a handful of washers - literally a handful - if anyone wants any Ive got loads.
I see them everywhere.
I was considering one a while back until I went to Silverstone in June for the BTCC. Saw maybe 20+ parked around the car parks, then later on the CTR owners club turned up! another 30 or so.
Was 3 time as many of em on the track than any other car too...
Mine does it now and again when cold, different engine of course.
Sometimes does it for a few days after topping up the oil or after oil change. Used to make me very paranoid that the engine would go bang, but its usually fine after its up to normal temperature - they seemed take ages to warm...
When your alternator fails your car will just conk out.
Mine took something like 2 years to finally pack up, the dash light used to flicker slightly while it was on the way out.
Got a refurbed one, but I think it still cost about £220 with fitting, cant remember exactly.
I take it you dont approve of K-TEC?
I know bugger all about them, just had a peek at their site, looks like they only do a kit which includes calipers. I dont really need mega performance brakes, just hoping I might find something better and cheaper than what Renault will fleece me for...
Well my disks are pretty much shot away front and rear and it seems like Im never going to get the time to do it myself.
I was thinking, does anyone know of a decent disk/pad upgrade that will cost much the same as Renault will charge to supply and fit their standard stuff. Or less would be...
It looks a lot better than some kits Ive seen, really canty understand why people want to turn their car into a snow plough when we dont get all that much snow here. I can understand the reason why youd want to be unique, but you gotta ask yourself why you are the only person with all that...
Mine will just get me home from when the light comes on, So about 35 miles. But thats pretty much all dual carrageway/motorway on the way back.
Id have thought yours would drink less than mine, but I dont know if the tank is the same.
At least youre alive mate.
I was starting to wonder if I should get a 172/CUP (mine needs to go to someone thatll give it lots of TLC) as I keep hearing horror stories about people losing the back end. I have never had mine out of shape (except with illegal tyres), occassionally in the wet...
Trade-sales in Slough were selling the V6 (brand new) a year ago for £20 grand. So If it was a NON-UK spec she wanted, Im sure shed have gone there. At least the warranty deal would have been better.
Sorry to hear this GR, but I think youve done the right thing, doubt the slimey b*stards will...
The cup racers would have different gearbox, wheels, fuel cell etc (taking into account a roll cage weighs a little bit too) you will be quite hard pressed to match one for weight!
Go for it GR if they are giving you a good trade in.
As you say, youre not going to be taking it to its limits, so who cares if the new one is a lot better for an extra 7k and a very long wait.
Youve only done about 3k miles in your 172 after 18 months, so servicing is hardly a major issue...
It has always made me laugh that people put spoilers on a car that didnt come equipped with one. People think that they make a car look fast because some sereously fast cars have them. But they slow the car down. Even the most powerful Scoobies with their pram handles shouldnt really have them...
Sorry that wasnt the most helpful off comments from me, Chris could be right about the spoiler though, it will slow you down. Spoilers like that are only helpful for downforce when cornering over 90mph on a track etc, but affect top end severely.
Speed doesnt kill, its the sudden stop.
They should have variable limits for weather conditions and for times of day when children are likely to run in the road. Erm yeah, dream on jonny.
Saw an undercover Ford Gallaxy, which nearly nicked me but I guess something more important came up...
