Yes, the guide involves going to halfords and basically bodging a ford escort rubber hanger into the bracket. Tbh, for £11 each its probably not worth doctoring the bracket and if you come to sell the car privately, it just looks a mess. £11 every 3 years isnt too bad for a perishable item.

Pads can go either way, aslong as the lug is in the right way for the handbrake. How about you push the piston in further, ie right in with the handbrake off. Need large screwdriver and turn it in. Then put pads in, with the aid of a hammer etc.
