The bass boost will raise certain frequencies to give more "bass" I have no idea what these frequencies are or how much they are boosted (on your amp/sub). Try it as low as it goes and then see if it's bassy enough....come back to us then! Good luck, and I hope you prefer how it sounds!
Stick the crossover at 70-80hz and set the gain just below half. It'll be fine...dare I say you wont notice a difference in crossover as long as it's round about the bottom end of the Renault speakers.
Personally with a FLI sub I wouldn't bother using an oscilloscope unless you can get old of...
True for the cross over and bass boost, not so for the gain.
True for the cross over and bass boost, not so for the gain. And yes, the low-pass filter is essential (if it has a switchable one)
It's not worth doing....that sub is pisshhhh! ;)
What else do you have, headunit/fron speakers etc etc???
In basic theory:
1, Set your headunit to flat (no bass enhancers etc etc).
2, Depending on what headunit you have, turn it upto about 3/4 (the point just before it starts to distort)
3...
Re: Insurance. Fookers! (young 172/182 owners look in)
:( Would it make a difference if I rang up and told them it was in a secure/underground car park?
Just looked at the sub properly, It's a TS-W3004SPL and needs a lot of power to run it well, and a well designed box! Your amp needs to be at least 3-4times more powerful!
I have heard stories about these being a bit of a pain to make sound decent. I would flog it and stick with your old sub.
You would benefit from upgrading to 6.5" partly because of the extra cone size, and partly because installing baffles makes the speaker much more rigid and improves the sound!
Those 13cm's will be fine for the front, I can't be sure about the back though...anybody?
If my maths is correct and those figures are the external dimensions that would make the box volume approx 0.4cu. ft.
For a 10" running at 200WRMS I would suggest a volume close to 1 cu.ft. (twice the size of what you are planning).
The problem is the 7" depth. If the wood is 3/4" thick that...
Re: Insurance. Fookers! (young 172/182 owners look in)
I'm 22 and have direct line named driver NCB for 4 years and insurance on a 1*2 is £700 at my folks (where I live now). I am planning to move out soon and it will go upto about £1250 for central Manchester!
Cars cost too much, I wish...
No offence, but do you know enough about car audio to be building your own box? I just don't want you to go and make a hash of it, we've all been there!
You will need speaker cable with or without banana plugs to run the sub from the amp, not low level RCA's as you have shown in the picture...
I can't remember the exact way the ipod interface is wired up (I have the same system) but it may take a source of power from the loom not directly from the headunit...?
Just check the fuse as it's the quickest easiest fix, then take it from there..
Lol, that's a decent sub, especially for free!!!
Get a picture of the old and new boxes up too, the volume of them is the key to how it sounds. Also the home made ported box may not have been designed correctly and therefore doesn't sound as good. Ported boxes have to be properly designed and...
Why not just put it on the steering column? Usable and nobody would see it unless they were really looking!
Clios have a serious lack of space on the dash, I installed a bass controller in a golf, they have loads of blanking plates on the dash to add extra buttons and gadgets.
Hi,
I am purchasing a 172 in a month or two and need to know how big the boot is, I am planning to transfer my sound system from a polo (with a decent sized boot) and need to know whether I will need a new box for the sub. The main dimension I need is the depth from the top of the seat to the...
Apologies, I didn't want to go into tooooo much detail for people who don't know what an amp looks like!
Looks like we've scared a.jenkin off anyways!
The guy has a point, although the way he/you stated it was wrong.
You "can" damage a sub by running it on an underpowered amp, just as you can damage a sub by using a very powerful amp.
All amps have a maximum output power which they cannot exceed, but turn the gain (volume) up too high...
 top guy!
I think the problem here is this "3000watts" bit, it's unlikely he will have be given a free sub of 3000watts RMS! It's probably a crap sub with some ridiculously over rated "max power" figure written on it, no true reflection of the capabilities of the sub...
No, no, no.....
What we need to know is, what sub did you have, what sub do you have, what amp are you using and what are the volumes of the new box and the old box.
3000watts RMS would be an absolute monster, i very much doubt you mean what you say. It's the same old problem with...
