Welcome. All of your 106's look tastefully done. In terms of speed, I can't see there being a lot in it. My AX GT, with Cammed VTS engine, 4-2-1 Janspeed, stripped ( 650kgs ) plays with 1*2's, but I would'nt want to crash in it. At least with the 182 you will get the best of both worlds. Enjoy.

Longer gear ratio in the newer box. Makes for an easier drive on motorways. Iirc, 70 mph in 6th is about 3.5k?

What you will notice is the unbelievable grip and handling. If you buy a nice colour/spec, I don't see any reason why you couldn't drive for a couple of years and not lose that much money on it, as the prices have levelled out of late. Either way, you will both enjoy it. The only downside...

All 197's built after October 07 will have the newer revised gearbox.

The 197 may not feel as fast as the GTI, but it will be going quicker. Welcome.

Don't worry, I found it. It's Ultra Red, no cup chassis, no Recaro seats, ditch finder tyres, and its an 06 so will have the older gearbox. Looks clean enough and is a nice colour, but for near on 7k I'd be looking at a higher spec'd one IMO.
