id leave the 2.0 engine swap untill you can afford a proper sport then atleast you will not have to worry about insurance when declaring everything.

is the dent on the standard bonnet excessive or repairable ? should easily be able to get pulled out, if not from behind then using the stud gun and pull it out from the front
what sidey said aint bad for what you want tbh, for the base coat dust it on very lightly for the first coat then give it a few decent coats.
on the parts you smoothed was it plastic ? and did it have like a bobbly texture to it after sanding ?
sandin pads n wet n dry are pretty much explain themself's, generally the higher grade papers are wet and dry as they get clogged up easier and the ''wet'' helps lubricate and clean the paper.

ahh thats more like it, and if your after tips alone most custom exhausts places, or any goo garage can cut your existing tips on and re weld new ones. saves buying a full system that way
swap the 2 plugs around with the 2 bad plugs and see if the miss-firing cylinders now run on the better plugs.
could be a timing issue but sounds like something else to me
