I would have thought you would have more torque from a 1.4 GTT lump? Conversion has been done before, needed alot of custom bits and pieces to get it working properly though. 1.5k for the 172 lump and all bits and pieces sounds like a bargain to me though :D

Through the different stages the car has been in, different colours, engines, wheels, interiors etc, reckon about 12k at a guess, but obviously money has come back from selling old interiors and wheels etc. Still only done 50 miles in the last 2 1/2 years though :(

Depends what your after really, mine is completely ott, and I have spent a small fortune on it! But I like it and thats what counts. Maxi or Dimma kit all in including fitting and respray will come to nearer 3k tbh, loads of work to get it spot on, will also need new wheels to fill the arches...

Its all down to budget really! How much cash do you want to spend and how much power are you after?

Not sure of the 1.7 volvo lump going in one of those, I know nocturnal developments but an R5 GTT lump into the same shape clio as yours though, and the owner is very happy with it :D

Yeah R5 lump in mine, good because lots of goodies available like silicone hoses stuff like that, but the Volvo lump just seems to be a better base to start from :D
