    Ah, thats nice, you got what you wanted so go and enjoy it. Shame about the insurance costs though, I do fell sorry for young drivers and what they have to pay.

    Whine that matches revs?!

    With the engine running spray WD40 on to each pulley, spindle in turn until the noise goes, then you've found it. May be the belt itself, in which case whatever you spray in that area the noise will go. The WD 40 will burn off in just a few seconds so no harm done.

    Not on mine, it's mainly the front brakes. if your handbrake is sticking then have a look at the handbrake mechanism, pull off springs. You talking about a Clio or Fiesta?

    Nah. You'll probably get a grinding noise as the pads clean away the rust for a few miles as well.

    Happens on mine too when driven in the wet, left over night and drive off in the morning. It's just rusting discs after the rain sticking to the pads.

    BHP at the flywheel---power coming out of the engine. BHP at the Wheels-----power measured at the wheels of course but there are power losses as drive goes through the gearbox and differential. O n a 172 expect 150bhp at the wheels.

    The Sportlines are a slightly softer spring and lower the car more than Prolines, therefore on a track a stiffer spring is what is required. Also I have tried both versions on my Fabia VRS and the Proline was the best at keeping the car level on corners. As for "Agressive Performance" mentioned...

    The gear selector has probably had a wack as its under the gearbox and prone to damage by speedbumps, check it first.

    You sure you have the leads going to the correct cylinders ? after all that swapping around you may have 2 leads reversed. If ok then it will be compression test or a visit to someone with a fault reader.

    If it was a dropped valve there would be some horrible noise. Compression test may show up low pressure on that cylinder. then you'll be looking at cream crackered rings, stuck valve etc. Is there fuel coming out of the fuel rail and into injector no.2 ? Did you get sparks from no 2 when...

    Then it will need changing, easy to do. Test the old one in a saucepan of water, should open just before the water boils, about 90deg. C.

    Some one else had this problem recently but I can't find the thread. But I would check the battery terminals are tight and the cable to the bodywork is tight, alternator terminals fitted tight. Problems like this are usually to do with loose wires especially cables to the chassis -ve. leads.

    Good idea Buzzer, It don't hurt to change ALL the fluids on a high mileage car, done all mine at 89K miles.

    You want to buy a Cup and your worried about the colour of light lenses? Thats just bonkers, you buy a Cup because its a thrill to drive on track.

    I think you might have trouble staying on the road with budget -60mm. springs and no other mods. Stick with the tried and tested. Eibach sportline for you Miss. Usually some for sale in the Cliosport ads. £70 'ish.

    For £700 you can get a Gold plated exhaust!!! Just find a specialist who'll make you a decent SS to suit you.

    The F4R is the best bit on a 172, very durable with regular oil and belt changes. The rest of it is French!!!

    rough idle cup 172

    There have been many threads about rough idle, especially on 172Cups, on this forum and most people tend agree it's normal. Some have had remaps and had the fault cured. I'm going to have mine done in the near future.
