is the new cold air feed connected to the existing one? or along side it? just disconnect the cold air feed from the viper and see if same thing happens.

my mate nearly did that in his corsa, but he was facing away from the ledge. stuck it into 1st(he thought) and went reved the tits off it and dropped the clutch. it was actually in reverse and we nearly went back over the ledge. would of been funny to see happen.
