I’d just fit some new boots (I found a boot from an old standard saxo vtr drive shaft fitted perfectly as it’s the right width to grip the cv) and maybe try and secure that donut if you can though I doubt it’d cause many issues as long as it’s not too loose
Was it a Lee Jones you spoke to there?
That’s exactly what they wanted from me mate, the part number and invoice of the replacement part. I’m not going to supply either for obvious reasons, they don’t state that their equipment should be installed by a trained mechanic - I pointed this out...
Yeah my clamp ring was on backwards too.
Sorry to hear that you have with a similar vibration story to what I had too
I’ll be interested to see how J&R treat you as they’ve categorically said to me it couldn’t be their “superior quality CNC machined driveshafts” as they test them at 10000rpm...
Yeah I did think that because the jubilees seem to “stand off” a bit when done up. what size clip do I need do you think? Seems a lot of motor factors by me don’t seem to stock the right clips
Didn’t use the j&r shaft in the end as it caused bad vibrations so in there at the mo is a used cup oem shaft.
I’ve got it right enough in the past using a crimp on clip and done it in situ but can’t get it this time, what size clip did you use?
Going to head to the factors this morning to see...
Someone has put a jubilee clip round the boot that sits on the bearing of my passenger side drive shaft and it leaks a bit of oil. I’ve tried numerous times to replace the clip as but as soon as I drop the car back to the ground it pulls off the bearing and obviously oil leaks out.
I know many...
vkja5380 is apparently the part number for the SKF CV joint that fit these shafts, I saw it posted on facebook and thought i'd copy it to here so it doesnt get lost
absolutely dire and thats putting it mildly, basically if you have problems with anything supplied by them then forget any warranty replacement or refund. They are in breach of the consumer goods act 2015 yet they are covered by the grey area of proving the fault exists which firmly sits in...
Looks like i'm in for a lot of trouble here getting this shaft refunded, had a snotty email back from them saying it must be the "stub" shaft being worn on the car as it couldnt possibly be their "cnc machined" chinese driveshafts could it. What stub shaft? Its the passenger side!
35 quid delivered from a guy breaking a cup so not too bad. The j&r shaft was clearly miles out, the standard shaft when in the box and connected up turns smoothly and the spring doesn’t compress.
Lesson learned for me
People on bookface are saying that an skf cv should fit? Though the cv alone seems to retail at 80-100 quid I find.
I can search oh the part number unless it’s on of you lot that posted it.
Anyway oem used driveshaft fitted and guess what, no more wobbling! Going to ring j and r tomorrow or see...
I think I’ve managed to source a good second hand cup shaft if so that doesn’t cure it the guy has a good cup hub I can try too.
Looking at that balancing donut the outer is definitely metal of some sort so I don’t fancy cutting it to fit
Change the disc, no change to the vibration. I think it’s the shaft now. Reading online reviews literally almost all the problems people state are due to vibration after fitting j&r shafts.
I think I’ll try and renew the cv on the old shaft, I found an an old saxo Vts driveshaft with a...
If you can get the shaft out the of bearing and hub though then it should be free to pull off. Mine wasn’t, splines had a tight grip on each other from years of corrosion and road filth. Hence the persuasion with hammer, drift and some plus gas but it did come free
Basically what this guy had...
I did clamp the hub/carrier in a vice, put a punch in the round indent in end of the shaft to drift it free of the hub as it was rather seized in this as it'd never been out in 14 years and 68000 miles. It did come out with some hammer action.
I did test the hub after this for any play or...
perished CV gaitor so it really should have been a easy change but the old cv joint didnt feel too brilliant so I figured I'd just change the shaft rather than change the cv (after seeing the price of these J&R ones)
All i can do is swap the disc now to rule that out, If it isnt that then ts either got to a be a knackered hub or wheel bearing (surely that'd be noisy and not silent like it currently is) or a shaft. I hope its not either of the latter!
screws are sitting nice and flush, i did notice that the shaft didnt have the balancing donut on it which the OEM one had. well Its all back together now, I cant feel any play anywhere as I said. I think the resistance thing is just me being a fanny as it drives nicely other than this wobble -...
