Well its not a form of gasket, its a nicely created o-ring seal. Burning smell...Next time you start it turn the air / heater...

Remember the exhaust you buy is in theory a one off - its not a bad price either. I know the old Remus etc are a little cheaper but if you want difference then you sometimes need to pay a little extra. Plus you can get them to "adjust" the sound as its going on.
