tuning on the VAG 1.8t engine is awesome... on the 180bhp engines a £500 remap will get you 230bhp.... you wouldnt get that on a valver.. i think you can go to about 350bhp with no internal mods. (im assuming its the same engine as the TT, A3, octavia VRS etc) but yeah its a heavier car...
