As I keep getting told by various people I dont think you can, Best bet is to keep rolling radius the same as possible, To get as close as possible on 17s you need 205/40/17 tyres, This is what im about to fit to my 17" team dynamic Phantoms. As advised by Rtec
Should not be any reason why not, Have a few mates that have put buckets in their minis none of them got special seats just mini specific sub frames. Go for it, Just check you can get the sub frames first.
One thing to bear in mind also with insurance quotes such as 172 vs willy, Part of the quote is based on parts costs. therefore if they think you are likely to stuff it up at 90mph or so... Then replacement parst for a willy are quite possible to be more than 172 due to availability probs.
Renault insurance said fine to me, lowering it, changing alloys, colour coding etc just said no performance mods.
Fred: how have you got yours down 80mm coilovers? You got any pics please.
When people say have camber adjusted what do you mean? Lowered mine 60mm on Pi springs not done...
Having a smaller offset on a car such as a 172 is no problem, You could not though put wheels with an offset of say 45 on a car like a clio dynamique with offset of 38, Wheels would be into the arch more and causing major problems
And now Im going to ruin your day by telling you, you could have done that with the free insurance!!!! Sorry... (Im assuming you had free Renault insurance)
To check you can get sound test cds like one that was given free with Fast Car recently, These often have tracks where a bass tone is emitted with someone saying out of or in phase immedaitely, idea being to look at your speaker as it moves, most likely in the case of subs
very roughly ...phase is whether the speaker cones move in or out at the right time, If you connect the two speaker wires the wrong way round for instance the cone will move in when its supposed to move out and vice versa. I can only assume the switch rectifies this without changing the wires...
Heres the grille, Just bought one off Rob Fenn, hopefully having it fitted this week.
Will post pictures soon as I can

Dan: Will these units work with the Kenwood M700? I have remote interface to infra red led in steering column fitted at moment for my kenwood mp3 unit, but apparently it will not work for the 7" screen and there is not one available form Kenwood, PM me if you can help
Thanks
I got N8EL U, Somehow accidentally put the bolt covers through the middle of the 8 as well!! Been pulled four times for it by police and had one £30 ticket from some anal traffic warden. Grrr
Spoke to Ktec the othere day they said their coilovers only dropped up to -70mm front and rear, anyone clear this up??
What are the cheapest coilovers available? Rtec can only get one make H and R which are £760ish!! thats a lot of money!!
Re: NOS
Loads of people seem to have this done yet I was told that no insurance company in the UK will cover you if its connected on the road. Am I corrcet in assuming that you dont tell them and pray you dont crash??
yeah that sounds pretty normal for a renault 1.2 16v, I have same problems, half time stalls when I start it, Renault checked it three times they say I have to wait for the instrument lights to go out then start it.
My argument: its s brand new car I want to put the key in and turn it, end of...
Brilliant little cars although when you buy it request that the airbag wiring modification is done before collection, just involves them securing the wires under the passenger seats. Stops warning light coming on.
Brilliant specification push the dealers very very hard on everything except...
Just collected my clio from my supposedly good competent bodyshop, They have resprayed my wing perfectly yet they inform me that cutting my standard grille to fit the ktec one is too "complicated"!!!!
grrr took them two days to figure that out.
Then I started the engine and after almost 8...
Yeah Thats right be careful with offset though, the cup and 172 are different offset to ours, basically how much they stick into or out of the arch,
Our offset is 38, 172 is 48.5 lower the number means they stick OUT of the arch more, higher the number means they stick INTO the arch more...
The only one I have not asked them about is tinted windows but I will be doing that myself in the next few weeks so will let you know,
Should not be a problem at all.
Re: wheels been toying with that one myself, Lowering 60mm on standard is great, I love it, been thinking about getting some...
clioman: no problem at all, always phone them up yourself to check and get a name and date and time of phone call,
If one of them tells you its not covered then put the phone down and call and speak to someone else!! You have no idea how thick they are!!!
Ren16v: No problem at all, opinions...
Ren16v: no offense but please make sure you know what you talking about before posting,
No it does NOT affect free insurance, Renault free insurance are perfectly ok with lowering, aftermarket alloys, up to £1000 of cosmetic styling bodykits etc, and up to £1000 of In car entertainment,
Very...
ho ho ho he he he I do love these forums back to the thread!!
Drop it 60mm on PI springs standard alloys and just make sure you got some roundabouts in your route, none of your mates will have a chance, Wait till you have been drivin a bit before you start doing roundabouts at 50 60 ish, but...
As far as I am aware I am pretty certain that NOS does not make any noise at all.
Sounds to me like a Supercharger, same as some people love the dump valve noise, (I want one!!) some people love supercharger noise, its a lovely sound when you recognise it.
Mini cooper S has one, not as...
Can anyone help please?
Reading off the back of an alloy wheel the following are the numbers on the wheel
P77038 7.0x 17 h2 8100114
Am I correct in believing that the P77038 bit ends with the offset therefore being an offset of 38??
Thanks
Mk2 offset is 48.5, dynamique offset is 38, Thanks to Rob for information
basically higher the number the further IN the arches the wheel will go, the lower the number the further OUT of the arches the wheel will be.
Hope this helps
Yeha you can get different offsets but the wheels I was looking at are second hand and 172 offset, Apparently the higher the offset the more it sticks into the wheel arch the lower the offset the more it sticks out of the arch
Cheers for both your help,
Rob: The greater ET of the 172 would actually mean that the wheels would actually stick further into the arch not out of the arch, just called for a price on some tyres and they told me that,
Trying to find out the ET of the wheels Im looking at now...
Thanks
