Are you sure it took 8 months for the light to come on the first time. If I had to reset it every 6-8 months I wouldn't mind.

Check your main incoming phone socket, you only needs two wires connected to #2 and #5. If there are any other wires just pull them loose. This will reduce noise on the line and increase speed. I did this when I got Sky Max 16Mb installed, my speed went from 2mb to 10mb. Not bad as I'm 1.6km...
