Only reason I would suggest a write off, is due to the Clio I just bought and also having seen a fair few with only light panel damage that get written off.
I just got one with a busted headlight and wing, but that's it and it was written off!
The insurance company may well deem it financially...
It'll probably get written off, which is a shame really.
And it's mad what gets deemed a write off, I have just bought a 182 that was written off because of a damaged headlight and cracked wing!
Hope you get it sorted as hassle free as possible though.
Ouch!... Looks like the lanes are very close together, as you seem pretty close, but ultimately, he should have checked and your speed would be irrelevant.
And as you say, I very much doubt you were steaming through.
You going through insurance, or can you come to an agreement?
The colour combo is great and having seen them up close now, they're really nice.... Just can't help feeling they're too grown up, if that makes sense? Compared to the 172/182 that is.
Lovely car though.
As the OP has added more info, I got the impression the "mechanic" was given a pile of parts, told that they were compatible and asked to put it all together, obviously I may be wrong though...?
Out of interest, how would you check clearance at the moment the dephaser engages?
Bet you know where everything is though.
Mine was a tip, until recently and now it's tidy, I can't find a bloody thing. :rage:
What's the spec of the engine, cams in there?
Is it just the angle of the light, or is there a chamfer (sloped edge) at the top of bores 2 and 3?
Also looks like there are very indents on the face of the block.
They're simple to fit and used decats are so cheap that you might as well, especially if that's as far as you'll be going with engine mods, but imo, any difference performance will just be in your mind.
Whether you could afford it or not, seems irrelevant tbh and I'd tell them to sod off!
Are they suggesting wealthier people pay for their own hire cars and less well off don't!
Seems very odd to me.
I'd personally buy a Trophy, rather than plough a small fortune into upgrading a 182 Clio.
You're very unlikely to see any of that money back, come sale time, but if the Trophy is a good one, it'll always be worth more than a modified/messed with 182 and far easier to sell imo.
You also have the...
I think this is a strong contender, polo saloon:

I have a 172 Cup Shell with private plate included, based in Uxbridge UB8.
Want it gone, so open to offers!
Reg: W21 RCS - Apparently it's worth £400!?

I hate that too, it's the misleading element that's frustrating, rather than the actual value of the car.
I had a very similar experience, fortunately it was the seller who'd travelled 2hrs with the car on a trailer.
After a brief test drive, I told him I'd pay him £50 to load the car back...
I was offered this 182 a while back and the seller told me it was a cat D, just thought I'd point it out, as the current advert doesn't mention it!

Is it 100% the same car?
There are a few substantial changes if it is:
1) Mileage has increased a fair bit.
2) Buckets & cage fitted.
3) AST's have gone.
4) Wheels have gained an inch - 17's now.
5) Highspec brake kit is now Ktr 4 pot kit.
6) And it was originally on Omex - now running Gen90...
I want to be clear, I'm in no way agreeing with or condoning how this guy conducts himself or his business, but technically it is a Trophy engine and unless he's stating that they're different and that you can't use a normal 182 engine (I'm not reading through his ad' again), then he can kind of...
Admittedly the engine isn't ''rare'' and certainly not worth paying £1200+ for (imo), but other than pricing it higher than current market rate and stretching the truth, I fail to see why that warrants going out of your way to waste his time!
I'm always on the look out for new cars and...
I'm sure I looked at rebuilding one before and the parts alone came in at about a grand!!... Someone will be able to correct me if I'm wrong though.
I'd opt for a used engine, with good history and MOT cert' to verify mileage, then pay to have new belts/dephaser done before fitting, as the...
I doubt that's the reason he doesn't want a deposit from that guy tbh!
It sounds like a price was agreed, the buyer moved the goal posts and in that time, the seller has had 10+ calls from potential buyers wanting to view, so may be able to actually get the £2,500 he wanted.
Hence why he wants...
Considering how long ago this was, I very much doubt he'll get any info from UPS without a tracking/consignment number and he certainly won't have any luck with a driver who probably delivers 100+ parcels per day.
I'm sure you should be able to review the case details in the resolution centre on paypal, it should show what the buyer or paypal have decided.
With the funds back in your account though, sounds as though it's been resolved in your favour :)

This.
They could have simply removed the pipes, I don't know why anyone would, but I've seen a couple with aircon pipes removed, but still with the A/C pump, all brackets and A/C rad intact so it could be a simple fix.
